That pig
is always full of surprises lol
It will remain in this state for 6-9 months, if history is any guide.
I remembered hearing about this, but here is an article with more details about the improvements coming to the NCMA starting next month and lasting through 2027.
Unrelated, but the Blue Ridge Rd. predestrian bridge now has 2 small cranes being set up on each side of Wade Ave, in addition to the larger one in the median. Hopefully going to see some actual bridge start being made.
Finally, the hard concrete at the Bryan amphitheater (reminiscent of a 1920s football stadium) will be replaced by individual plastic seats.
Almost no trace remains of the former identity of NCMA W-S as the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art. I recognize that SECCA wasn’t making it financially, but I hate to see any venue for contemporary art disappear. It will be interesting to see whether NCMA W-S merely exhibits Raleigh’s permanent collection or retains its own identity.
Pedestrian bridge is staged to be lifted into place. It looks good! And red! Looks like it’ll be a nice entry into town.
Omg we saw some signs of life recently. This is our gateway to downtown so I’m excited. Thanks for the update. I’ll have to drive by later
I saw them working on it yesterday. Looked like they were unloading several of the new bridge sections.
I’m assuming there will be a sidewalk or greenway constructed on the west side of blue ridge as well?
Park and ride on each end of the bridge.
Is it a bridge or yet another crane?
Actually had my phone ready for this and took it while driving, meaning I didn’t even look or prioritize this at all. I’ll go up Blue Ridge this weekend and get something more definitive if no one beats me to it.
Not expected to be completed until fall of 2026. But at least there is progress.
…seems like a LOT of progress if there’s still a whole year to go ![]()
I think they mean all the path stuff is gonna take that long. I’m like, you got a bridge going up in the next few weeks and it’s already painted. What are you doing for the next 12 months?
Article says they’ve got to pour a concrete deck
Which side of the Blue Ridge Rd. overpass is it going up on? East? West?
I believe it is going up on the west side of Blue Ridge Rd.
Grabbed a quick shot from the bus window, this thing is really going to catch your attention coming into town from the west!
Well that should take at least a year! I know they can do an entire floor in a single night for a building, but a pedestrian bridge is another story! ![]()
