This likely is a different thread, and has been discussed a length. Raleigh has no “brand”. What is Raleigh, what makes us unique? I had the TV on for background noise over the weekend on Roku. I swear almost every commercial break had a commercial for Charlotte. Sure, it is all targeted advertising, I get it. But it was almost oversaturation of Charlotte attractions, Charlotte restaurants, Charlotte sports, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I love Charlotte and have tried to move there more than once. But What/Who is Raleigh? We’re NOT a sleepy Southern State Capital anymore, we are a rapidly growing mid-sized city. Sure, Charlotte IS bigger, but we’re not that small. Same can be said about Nashville, TN. Their brand is well understood. They are also a Southern State Capital, but far from sleepy, and also a booming mid-sized city. Would an MLB team help get us on the radar? Maybe? Have the Hurricanes helped? I’m guessing yes (but it would be nice to be able to see the local games more than 3 or 4 times a season for the non-cable subscribers. I feel like Raleigh is having an awkward identity crisis and trying to figure out what/who it wants to be when it grows up. But by the time that is understood, I’ll be long gone.
