They wouldn’t overlap events, I’ll tell you that much.
did michael jordan recently get 3 billion? he liked baseball didn’t he?
Don’t give him any ideas.
He’s not interested.
Any updates? And Jordan you obtained that Intel how?
Considering the Hornets’ complete lack of success under his ownership, I hope he stays far away from any NC-based MLB teams.
Period. There should be a period at the end of that lmao.
Im starting to believe MLB to Raeigh have some cold feet over corporate support but I think it’s possible.
MLB to Raleigh corporate support is the largest hurdle.
It’s a hurdle for sure. But the people involved that matter do not see it as a blocker for making this happen.
Well that’s good as long as theirs a stadium plan in place, a billionaire investor, and public support that can do it. Corporate can come later I’m sure it was hard for the Canes’ to find some when they came here but they survived and pushed for it over time they’ve became sustainable.
I can tell you care a ton about this and are really trying to make sure everything is taken into account. But there are people WAY above your and my pay grade doing that sort of stuff right now for this push.
Let’s also hope way above the pay grade of the MLS to Raleigh leadership team
Yeah we won’t mention that let’s not jink this.
Lou, Such Great News On What You Just Posted! Raleigh is so past due for a downtown area Professional Baseball Team! Durham has beat us to death on this.
What is the anticipated timeline for this decision to get made?
Lou is the Main contact concerning a lot of this project for Raleigh. He has put in a lot of effort and hours and money.
Raleigh Magazine’s feature with our very own @Loup20
The decision is on MLB. After Tampa Bay’s stadium situation is signed and finished (likely January if there are no more hold ups), the MLB Commissioner (Rob Manfred) said he will create an expansion committee to dive into all of this and come out with 2 new markets/teams.
Long story short. We weren’t even in consideration when MLB’s plans were first announced, now I’d say we are one of the top 3 (alongside Salt Lake City and Nashville).
How it works is MLB will target a few markets they like, and they will want to see what those market’s appetite is for making this happen.
100% North Carolina will be a target and it’s becoming more and more likely the specific location in NC will end up being Raleigh and not Charlotte.
The next step will be to see what Raleigh has to offer. MLB wants to see:
Government support (We’ll have it)
And ownership group led by a billionaire - extra points for one with a track record in sports. (we already have it)
A funding plan (We’ll have it, according to Dundon)
A stadium site (many options being considered…there will be one)
Massive community support (we already have it but working on growing it)
Corporate support (That is the next step)
We are ahead of everyone at this moment. Others may catch up, but right now, we seem like the horse to beat.
