Bring MLB To Raleigh

The Winston-Salem MiLB team is trying out a new look for the upcoming season, which has been floated as a possible name for a Raleigh MLB team. Wonder how this could affect our chances at having the Reapers here in Raleigh?

I still really like… and don’t hate me… Carolina Copperheads as a team name. Much as I’d love to see some “Raleigh” branding in the team name, the alliteration of Carolina Copperheads just HITS for me.

Can’t it just be the “Raleigh Baseball Team/Club”? Soccer does this and DC had the “Washington Football Team”. Somewhat light hearted suggestion but…is it?

Considering we’re probably never getting a team, I’m sticking with the RDU Phantoms.

Raleigh Triangles. Is good.

Carolina Copperheads already exist(-ed?) in the triangle as a regional youth football organization. Not that they couldn’t be bought out for the name, but there’s a reason it sounds good; it has been getting used for a couple decades as known by parents on here. Although it’s been a good 8-10 years since my kids played for them so I don’t know current league status. Pop Warner football and cheerleading.

Good taste!

learned that too in my utmost support for the copperheads as a team name. glad to let an mlb team snipe this mascot. it’s just too good.

Call me selfish, but I want Raleigh in the name. I am done playing nice/regional with Durham. They name everything that they can after their city, and we should do the same.

Me too, but from conversations, it’s very unlikely. Lots of corporate money would be coming from outside Raleigh, so I think the lean in to NC is very very likely.

We can rebrand in a couple decades like the Marlins. Getting them is the most important part.

In terms of corporate money and support, Raleigh does not have as many headquarters as the rest of the state. But North Carolina has plenty of companies that can sponsor and support the team. I am positive a BIG Charlotte bank would want to be involved in sponsorship because last time I check BofA and Truist all have substantial operations in the area. Dittos for the Charlotte based Lowes. Any big NC based utilities that might be sponsors maybe a Duke Energy? Bojangles seems to be popular in Raleigh too and the rest of the state. Or how about Cookout as an official sponsor? So when you think of corporate support think of what we have in NC and we have some big corporations with headquarters here and or major operations here. Think any NC grocery store chains might be interested lets say a Food Lion or Harris Teeter in being the official grocery store of the new Raleigh team? Hmm Lenovo may be want to be the official technology sponsor if not we can get someone else. Airlines? American Airlines employs more people in NC than any other airline including a good number in Cary. Doesn’t Charlotte based Nucor steel sponsor the jerseys for the Canes? If Raleigh gets the team which I think it can ,Charlotte and our big corporations will be there for it given their extensive operations across the state. The Raleigh pitch needs to be all the corporations based in the state.

“Advance Auto Park” has a nice ring to it.

“Carolina” is overly used and has gone stale as a sports branding name (movie theater popcorn from 2 years ago kind of stale).

My Brother in Christ: “Carolina” is literally the namesake of our entire state.

Raleigh would be preferred, but I really hope we get the opportunity to bitch about it being called ‘Carolina’. That would be a good day.
