I jog through there a lot and this field looks like its become a major park and ride lot for NC State recently. Sort of too bad its being developed as itād have been a nice contiguous piece to add to Schenk or Umstead or even being a satellite art museum park areaā¦I had envisioned a huge park from the art museum to Umstead as a cousin to Dix.
So, other than the almost 9 square miles of Umstead Park, plus Schenk Forest, and the Goodnight Museum Park, just how much more parkland within the city limits is going to be enough for that corridor in northwest Raleigh?
Sorry about the sarcasm; but seriously, the one thing thatās not missing around there is parkland.
I prefer super dense cities surrounded by unblemished open space. This project constitutes sprawl to me. Specifically regarding this spot being open space, large swaths of contiguous open space is what animals benefit from. Also, after having walked the Art Museum in 20 minutes a dozen times in the last 30 days (and run at least 2000 miles in Umstead in recent years) the idea of connecting it all (includes Prairie Ridge too)with more than the existing strip of sidewalk-greenway sounded pretty awesome. A growing population needs every amenity to be consideredā¦where are we preserving new greenspace exactly? Didnāt the parks bond just get shit on? Donāt really see how anyone could reasonably trash this thought.
I apologize if my reply was too harsh. I suggest we drop it because I donāt think that either one of us is going to convince the other.
Peace!
We just canāt shake the stain of HB2ā¦Detroit? seriously?
And how did HB2 tie into this?
Whats wrong with Detroit? Quite arrogant to think that Raleigh deserves Amazon jobs over any other place. I for one am rooting for cities like Detroit and if it werenāt for tax havens like Raleigh/North Carolina - the Rust Belt might have a chance.
I agree. I thought the HQ should have gone to a city more in need.
Given the tax benefits thrown around during the HQ2 kerfuffle, Iād say itās safe to say Raleigh isnāt winning many of these battles on those terms.
ask the State economic development leaders. i know several of them. Hb2 is still a stain on our State and continues to be something they have to fight againstā¦regularly.
Anyone have more details on this.

Seems something has changed on Internet and can not get to many news sites even without any ad blocking on.
The center will be built in Downtown Durham through a sublease of space from Duke University at 200 W. Morris Street in the Durham Innovation District, according to a spokesperson for the company. It is evaluating āseveral locations for its eventual permanent home,ā the company added.
Renaming this thread. I think after 2 years we can look forward from the Amazon and Apple hype that took place.
In downtown Raleigh.
Very Cool. I was scoping that building out the other week. Nice work from them!
There is an article in TBJ today about Aktis Oncology (from Cambridge, MA) expanding to Durham/RTP but I couldnāt get much more in my speed read before the firewall went up. They also just raised $72M in a Series A:
Life sciences tends to do better in RTP/Durham - I guess time will tell what Kaneās Innovation District will do to attract that sector to Raleigh.
Going in at Capitola Dr./S. Alston Ave.
āOur plans are to grow approximately a dozen this year and then over the next two years or so weāll build out to 20, 25 people.ā
