Business Expansion in the Triangle

ABC11 correctly mentioned Apple’s relationship with RTP and the current HUB project. They are more reliable :man_shrugging:t4:.

Anyone know if the Google Fiber is coming back to their building on Glenwood? They’re expanding their network around the Triangle, but the building seems abandoned.

It’s such a damn waste of that beautiful space, I would be just fine if they vacated and allowed some actual retail or another restaurant to take over.

No. The people that worked from there are based out of the Durham office now.

TBJ article about Apple deal behind the scenes. 2018 project was for 5,000 jobs.

So has the N&O. They also have a better comparison between the 2018 offer and what we ended up getting (obviously better things are bolded):

Benefit 2018 Offer ’18 Conditions ’21 Deal ’21 Conditions
Total size of tax incentives $762M $845.8M over 39 years
Total number of jobs 5000 3000+
Average annual salary $120,339 $187,000
Investment in RTP facility $500M R&D hub, customer services center $552M R&D (only?)
Expansion of Catawba Co. data center $1.5B Includes new jobs $448M No new jobs
Other public benefits ? Investment in infrastructure, workforce training, diversity etc.

Catawba got hit big time, while Wake/RTP didn’t suffer much at all. Most of the loss came out of Catawba while the investment in Wake actually went up a bit.
There’s no way to know how many new jobs were lost in Catawba, but zero is still zero while Wake’s number isn’t necessarily capped.
The 187K average salary definitely signals that the jobs that aren’t coming to Wake are lower level than the ones that are coming.

Catawba is nothing but a data center with minimal employment……patsy mrcrory was the moronic governor we had at the time and all he could focus on was driving any business that sounded “cool” to the charlotte usa area which he thinks is the center of the universe…….so we offered up a “deal” for a data center so he could say “Apple was coming to NC!”…….with hardly any employment…….& he helped his former dinosaur employer duke sucks energy in the process.

He went to school at catawba college for what its worth.

Agreed that McCrory sent biz to Charlotte where he’d been mayor.

But homophobic Name calling on here is uncool

If it was someone “misgendering” a Dem instead of you making a homophobic joke about Repub Pat McCrory, there would be howls on here.

I’m with you on the name calling, but missing the homophobia. What am I not seeing?

Well the ultra woke among us tend to create homophobia and racism out of thin air and then publicly accuse people of it as much as possible. You can’t see it (in this instance) because it doesn’t exist.
