CNBC article on NC’s efforts to lure Apple. Discusses inclusivity and incentives. Cooper is quoted as saying he isn’t sure if HB2 played a role in the 2018 miss.
HB2 certainly didn’t help.
HB2 was still looming over our heads but I am convinced the bigger turn-off was the desperate fight of the GOP to cling onto their super majority before the fall election 2018 with several items on the ballots such as voter ID restrictions and gerrymandering maneuvers.
No matter on which political side you sit just an unfortunate timing to create that publicity while awaiting decisions from Apple and Amazon to expand in your state.
What is this comment “Research Triangle region outside Raleigh” I always thought news stories had to say Durham. Guess CNBC did not get the memo.
Cooper said it was THE problem by saying what he said.
I know from my contacts that HB2 was most certainly the SOLE reason we lost Apple 5 years ago….among all the other job losses
Spoken like a true politician of a purple state.
Actually the triangle tends toward blue.
But Cooper is governor of the whole state, with eyes towards the Senate I’m sure.
…very much so, but Cooper isn’t just the governor of the Triangle.
Saw another news report today, about Cisco’s Internet center in triangle. Not only did it just say Raleigh’s triangle park but used aerial video of downtown Raleigh. Is this a start to using Raleigh as a reference point by news reports for triangle area, being it’s much better known than Durham on national and international level?
do you have the story link?
It was TV news, I was just scanning channels and ran across it, I think it was on the local news (Charlotte) LG channel. I think the announcement by Cisco was a few months ago and was posted on DTR somewhere. The statement about Raleigh’s triangle park was by newscaster do not think by Cisco. From what I see on there I suspect it is not even produced in Charlotte, more likely a central location some where. If I change my location to Atlanta I get local Atlanta news on there.
Well, Cisco is in Metro Raleigh/Cary, as is Apple and Lenovo. IBM is in Metro Durham/Chapel Hill. Maybe that explains the references. RDU is Raleigh according to the airlines.
Every time I fly, once the plane lands at RDU they say welcome to Raleigh.
As it should be.

I love it.
Man - BioPharm industry is on fire in the region.
Notice that they talk about HB2.
Clearly it was an issue, and even a financial market channel like CNBC talks about it.
