Business Expansion in the Triangle

I don’t get it either. Just a collection of clear cut, ulta low density, cheaply built, sub developments. Does that make it better? DT Clayton is ok I guess but Johnston County offers nothing other than a place to live and an acre lot. Who tf wants to mow an acre lot?

So many people. I’m with you though, I love not having a yard and living near a park.

There’s no doubt that there are people who love and will love that sort of living. It’s just not for me. I also have to agree with @Phil in that the clear cut cookie cutter developments are my least favorite version of suburbia. @Boltman will be happy to hear that I’d rather be in a small, interesting, modern home situated in the woods in Chatham County than in one of those cookie cutter developments.

Yeah, I don’t like cookie cutter either. Either have to go high end where you have large lots with varying architectural or older in town neighborhoods. Either way it’s expensive to avoid the cookie.

What the article illuminated for me was that things like factories want to be close to bigger metro areas for their workforces (present and future, from colleges), but are often physically too large to find sites within the metro area. Hence things like the new factories in Clayton, Holly Springs, and Siler City.

Nowhere in the factory did it say that we should all decamp to the exurbs. Both Chatham and Rockingham counties offer country living in spades; indeed, Rockingham is much more rural, but that isn’t accruing to its benefit.

Self-driving taxi service Cruise expanding to Raleigh. Not sure what the coverage area will look like, probably downtown Raleigh and North Hills?

The lack of real traffic in downtown will probably be good for this type of service.

Awesome. If we weren’t worried enough about the cars with actual drivers…

Will they have robot drivers like in Total Recall?

Didn’t San Fran just recently make them take half their fleet out of the city because they had so many issues? I guess they have a bunch of extra inventory now and are looking to deploy them here. .

i did…and when i was done, plop down on the porch

That’ll be a big HELL NO from me. I’d rather be killed by a living, breathing person than by an algorithm, thank you very much.

Problem is, everyone in the city will be part of this beta test, whether or not you consented to it or not by riding in the robo-taxi.

Exactly… like, I better not be the first person to get run over by one of these things…

Fear not, I’m sure the first person will be someone wandering in the middle of oncoming traffic on Capital or New Bern, as usual.

Looking forward to seeing how they handle the construction barriers and street parking turning Edenton into an unofficial 1-lane road. Or the Morgan street surprise third lane crossing in front of the capitol.

Oh God that Morgan Street one is hair-raising. You’re never quite sure what any car is going to do. Up there with the Dawson Street lanes realigning at Hargett for near-sideswipes. Thank goodness the speed limit is pretty low there, at least.

Apparently an orange traffic cone on the hood confuses the AI driver so much it just freezes in place.

I think we have a long way to go before Sky Net takes over the world.

I’m sorry, what are they protesting?

They are protesting driverless cars. For many it’s about safety. For others it’s about losing their livelihoods. For others it’s about how slow they are and clogging up the roads.
In effect, they don’t want their city to be the testing ground for (what they believe) a technology that’s not ready for deployment.

I vote for those car that fly. Might as well go all in…
