The supreme court has a democratic majority, but the two members whose terms end this year are Democrats. Regardless, Republicans only need to flip three seats in the house and two in the senate to be able to override Cooper’s veto.
You beat me to this post. If voters (and non voters) let it happen, then oh well. It’s not like there isn’t a consequence either way. It’s not a secret anymore what the true intentions are of the current SCOTUS.
Yeah, I was talking to Minu Lee and he said that we still would need to be competitive even if that happens.
Back to my original point, it’s already starting to impact where businesses and their employees want to be located.
It’s much cheaper to pay a few grand to move a person and abort than to pay that person 6 to 12 month salary for staying home on leave to raise the little spawn. It’s always about the money.
What kind of company do you work for that gets 6-12 months Maternity leave?
Isn’t that the truth!!!
Meta offers 6 mo paid leave and the scheduled salary raises do not get delayed. I know someone who got a pretty substantial raise while being on 6 months of PML
I’ve always liked the way they ran out of ideas for names in California and just named cities for whatever they saw nearby at the time: The Cats, The Drawer, Twentynine Palms…
At least with regard to Los Gatos, I think that it was named for the mountain lions that lived in the foothills that the town is snuggled into.
Saw this on the Triad Business Journal this morning. Looks like another massive project is heading to Chatham County. An ‘unidentified business’ would make computer chips and invest $4.8 billion into the area and bring in 1,800 jobs
For reference, VinFast is planning on invest $4 billion in the area when they were annouced.

EDIT: FWIW the Axios Raleigh newsletter is speculating it might be Wolfspeed, formally Cree, who are out in the RTP already for those who didn’t know.
Need to slap an interstate shield on US 1 going toward Sanford. Direct interstate access is a huge checkbox on those mega site interest forms.
1 is already up to interstate standards between 40 and 421. If we’re serious about the Moncure site then it’s essential.
Based on the article it says this one would be east of Asheboro off 64. Specifically at the Chatham-Siler City Megasite. The only ever hypothetical ‘improvements’ I’ve heard/read about for 64 was beefing up 64 between Apex and Cary. I wonder if there’s any plans to ever make these types of improvements further along 64? Feel like with all the rapid growth and mega developments like Chatham Park, VinFast, and now this out in Chatham County they need to severely do some road upgrading.
I was speaking on why it seems the Moncure site along US 1 much closer to us isn’t grabbing these big ones compared to out there.
This site has direct I-74 access.
As for US 64, there’s been a few studies but with US 1 being limited access, I-74 and US 421 (Future 685), US 64 should be good.
If Chatham Park really develops like they plan to, then maybe it will have to be upgraded. Really interesting to see the web of industrial development in that area.
here is a report ion WRAL web site - techware
East of Asheboro can mean a lot of things. If it’s also actually in Chatham, that’s pretty far east. If it’s just over the county line, won’t most employees actually travel from points west of Pittsboro where costs of living are less, instead of places like Cary or Apex? Frankly, manufacturing jobs won’t pay the same salaries as the announced Apple or Meta jobs in the Triangle.
The site is just outside of Siler City, so yeah, it would be pulling in a lot of people west of Pittsboro for sure. Wouldn’t surprise me if it pulled in some workers from places like Sanford or Chapel Hill outskirts either.
For cost of living/home pricing, I don’t know for how much longer the costs will be lower. I live out here in the Apex/New Hill/Holly Springs area and the housing boom is definitely spilling over into the Pittsboro area. There’s already a bunch of luxury-looking neighborhoods being built around Jordan Lake. Chatham Park is the standout but I feel I see TBJ articles all the time saying another national builder is plotting another neighborhood out there pretty regularly. I think the VinFast project will also drive up the house prices pretty fast too. They seem pretty aggressive about getting the plant up and running in the very near future.
While the jobs will be technically in the Triangle, workers will assuredly be coming from the southeastern side of the Triad.
Isn’t the VinFast facility supposed to be in the Moncure site?
It is. I’d say it’s the most desirable locations by far of the mega site movement so I think they’d be getting more interest with that interstate “checkbox”
Read a lot on why and how that makes a big difference on applications.
