Business Relocation/Economic Expansion

Don’t have a lot of faith in Vinfast. I would have held out for a much more solid tenant.

Time will tell. It’s backed by one of the richest men in Vietnam. I think the same was said about other Asian companies that are where “WHO???” when first opened in USA that are chased after now. Vietnam seems to be on same explosive growth path that China was on in early 2000’s. Just hope they do not revert to pre1980s as China is doing now.

Not to mention the US… :upside_down_face:

Pre-1880’s for the US.

New automotive companies require an insane amount of capital. Then you have to have a product that will actually sell profitability with volume. An almost impossible feat from a startup. Tesla has succeeded by the slightest of margins but without much competition in that space until recently. With demand at a high right now for these mega sites, why commit to this.

Something just does not seem right with this company.

The factor you’re missing here is that the Vietnamese government really want a domestic automaker in the global market. It’s a point of national pride. VinFast is going to succeed because the Vietnamese government won’t let them fail.

Granted I’m not always up to date on the state of world economies, but the perspectives on Vietnam seem bullish. China circa 2000?

They do not have the population. Nor natural resources. Small player.

Unless they sell cars, they will fail. Uphill battle. Communists will hang this guy out to dry if it does not work out.

Yeah, it is bullish. There is no doubt that’s the model they are trying to imitate, and a lot of the cheaper manufacturing for clothing, toys, etc, has over the past decade relocated to Vietnam as labor costs in China increase. There are also risks of them falling into some of the same traps as China did. For example, using infrastructure spending to drive GDP growth. But the transition from a government investment-led and FDI-led growth model to a sustainable consumer led growth model is tricky to say the least. This even China is struggling with.

FWIW on LinkedIn they posted they’re hiring for the new Chatham county project.

Let’s pray for success, hopefully they can source and build the needed parts in the USA.

6 Billionaires in NC……all in Raleigh…zero in the rest of the state

Unfortunately they are all introverted softwares types who have no interest in stepping up for things like MLB, MLS, and other forward facing regional oriented endeavors.

Clarification: all in the Triangle, only one in Raleigh. Cary is punching way above its weight with all of the top three.

I bet a lot of people would be surprised at 6 billionaires from the Triangle and none from Charlotte.

Well, 4 of the six from the Raleigh metro, all of which are in Wake County, and all 6 are in the Triangle.

Maybe they aren’t interested in pro sports, but the Goodnights have donated a lot to NC State and to the NCMA.

I’d certainly like more pro sports in the Triangle, but education and art/parks are very admirable things to put your money towards.

Maybe one of them will become like the Waltons and fund all things bike / ped infrastructure

Where does Rick Hendrick consider home? Has to be either up here in Raleigh area or down in Charlotte. I have a feeling with all his car dealerships he has to be pushing towards $1 billion net worth.

It was two of the Walton grandkids who really got into mountain biking:

I noticed that the Indianapolis Cultural Trail (an off-street trail encircling downtown Indianapolis) bears the name of Gene Glick, an apartment developer:
