Apple submitted permits year ago and County wanted more information and no resubmitted. Can’t issue without resubmitted of information needed. Not building permits anyway just grading etc
Right so basically as long as the taxes are low enough then they are willing to look the other way on their social politics. What a noble stand they are making there.
True - same reason all these companies fab everything in China.
Businesses exist to create value for their shareholders. They’re going to try to maximize that, and if customers and talent don’t punish them for it they’ll just pursue the most cost-effective option in the absence of regulation.
- I suspect that Apple, like many/most other large companies is comprehensively reevaluating its long term real estate and occupancy strategies.
- When Apple announced the 3000 new jobs for the area, it was prior to understanding what the world of post-pandemic work would look like.
- A story back in December Apple RTP hub to be built in Raleigh, documents reveal new details about the project - ABC11 Raleigh-Durham reported that the campus construction was pushed back to 2026.
The glass half empty spin on all of this could be Apple deciding not to build as robust of a physical presence overall. The glass half full spin is that a company like Apple might see more value in creating an urban footprint downtown for hybrid work and collaboration while building a smaller footprint out in the Park.
Exactly. Which is why the politics of N.C. have no real bearing on what these companies do. It is just a convenient excuse when they make decisions for other economic based reasons.

It’s also worth noting they are subleasing a 7 story building from MetLife so they have a good bit of office space available to them now.
In addition to the MetLife building, they’ve leased out Innovation One building on the Imperial Center campus in Durham (a 140,000 square foot, four-story building). Apple is not just waiting around to get going, they’re already here.
In all honesty, do we really want the laughing stock of electric cars associated with the Triangle?

Raleigh officially has 2 Fortune 500 companies yay!
Martin Marietta is almost there…
Fortune 500! and virtually no physical presence in their headquarter city. Make a damn statement and let lose of some of that $$.
