Raleigh is doing fine.

Has been all 18 years I’ve lived here.

Should be doing “unprecedentedly incredible,” by this point.

Still has those larger buildings in the ‘render’ as if they’re a sure deal…. yet they’ve seemed to be dead in the water for years now. How likely are those 2 towers that were once announced and since…. crickets ???

Pure speculation, but I wonder if some of those buildings couldn’t move forward until the MLK Blvd to McDowell ramp work got started. Some of the Gateway parcels looked like they overlapped with that ramp, which could explain why the bigger pieces have been quiet while the garage/plaza moves first.

You may be on to something here. I sure hope that is the case!

Considering there has been quite a bit of Transportation coordination in order to close the on-ramp and rebuild this intersection, I would assume this could have significantly resulted in delays with development at this location. Not that this is a go by any means, but the recent article puts forth that the base of the original plans for this are still what is expected: When completed, it will include more than 1,400 residential units, office space, 30,000 square feet of retail, and a 200-key hotel. It will also be home to a K-8 charter school.

I’ve also never seen this image. But it is intriguing.

Going through all the trouble of building an automated parking garage for just 2 levels of underground parking seems…. shortsighted lmao

Even 3 levels would seem more robust and worthwhile

It’s nit-picky, but it drives me crazy when something downtown is referred to as “near downtown” in reporting. This isn’t the first time it’s happened, and it likely won’t be the last. It’s as if they think that downtown is just Fayetteville St. from the Capitol to the Performing Arts Center, and that’s it!

Yet they do the opposite when there is crime out by Wake Med and the headline says “Stabbing in Downtown Raleigh”

That’s a very good point!

They just did it last week too, literally 4x the distance from downtown the Gateway area is.
