City of Raleigh Municipal Campus

True! Even from 1.5 miles away (Village District) it fills a former gap.

Are you sure? I think it’s actually hidden by 400H.

Think you are correct. Windows are not the Municipal building pattern.

EDIT: Too blurry to demonstrate when the photo is zoomed/cropped that tightly. But with binoculars I can just see the SW corner of the municipal building peeking around the SW corner of 400H (also 17 stories vs. 20 stories).

Said like someone from a southern city of building heights of 600’ +

I cheated. I went to maps to see why the building wasn’t showing up and it was easy to draw a line and see that 400H was blocking the view.

image of inside City Hall looking at staircase and outside view through windows.

Imagine lunch with a view, and all you will have to do is walk over to the break area. The new City Hall will feature break areas full of light, offering a bird’s-eye view of Nash Square and the warehouse district. This image shows the connecting staircases between some of the building’s floors and the view from the break area.

Construction Update

We may not be able to see it, but so much work is taking place inside the building. Crews are working on:

  • Installing the elevators;
  • Working on plumbing, HVAC, and power and fiber lines;
  • Putting up the drywall;
  • Installing the tile;
  • Painting;
  • Installing the ceiling grid; and,
  • Hanging doors.

On the outside of the building, teams are working on:

  • Installing the roof on floor 17;
  • Caulking window openings;
  • Installing the Curtainwall system;
  • Installing the outside fins on levels one and two; and,
  • Waterproofing the terrace planters.

Did Havana steal our city hall idea??
(edit: this is apparently the US embassy in Havana)

Fewer shadows, but at least there’s proper screening at the top.

The screening gets filled in more each day. They actually open like bay windows now too

Rendering of the new City Hall lobby

Most of the work on City Hall has moved to tasks inside the building. Some of the things crews are currently working on include installing drywall, painting, hanging doors, tile work, installing railings on internal staircases, elevator installation, and, in the next few weeks, installing the terrazzo floors.

What are terrazzo floors?

Terrazzo floors are made by embedding small pieces of marble, glass, quartz, or granite in cement or epoxy. The mixture is poured, cured, and then ground and polished to a smooth surface. Terrazzo is a very customizable flooring. Geometric designs can be created by incorporating divider strips into the flooring and using different colors. The finished product is a durable, long-lasting surface that is also visually appealing.

How is terrazzo installed?

  • It all starts with a smooth, clean subfloor. The subfloor must be free of any debris. The crew will wash, sweep, and scrub with a special cleaner that kills any algae or bacteria growing on the surface.
  • Metal dividers are installed to create the floor’s pattern and help prevent cracking.
  • The terrazzo mixture is prepared. This mixture is a precise recipe that includes a color pigment, epoxy or cement, and aggregate chips. This mixture is poured and spread over the subfloor.
  • The floor crew will then use a weighted roller and hand trowels to compress the mixture, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
  • Once the terrazzo has cured for several days, crews will grind and polish the new flooring.

Well it looks like I have some shoes to eat, or whatever BS I said I’d do :rofl:

I’m sure a crow tastes better than a shoe. Use a little Texas Pete!

Pretty sure anything deep fried is gonna be edible, so I’ll plan on deep frying my left shoe and smothering it in yum yum sauce once this screening is complete.

Wait to see if the whole thing is screened or not.

Exactly. If not, I’ll just do a shoelace ramen bowl.
