Commerce Place Woonerf

But it’s supposed to be a living street, and City Market is dead.

How do you do, fellow kids? You may know me from various meetups… the Darby, Yacht Club, State of Beer, Berkeley Cafe and so on.

I’ve relented and created an account on this board, of course to bump this thread and to promote the event tomorrow at First Friday from 3-9pm, Commerce Place between the Pit and Parkside/CAM.

There’s going to be a food truck, cotton candy, popcorn, etc., games, a band/music, and City staff on hand. And we are of course in the Sip n Stroll district.

Please come out and participate in the community engagement activities, meet other urbanists and planners and share your ideas/make yourself heard. Come say hello - I will be the freezing bundle of clothes by the food truck generator exhaust.

Love this! I wish we could go!

Cool visuals out there tonight. I couldn’t see it before but once you close down Commerce the idea of making it for pedestrians only just makes sense.

Need those parking lots in the back developed!

I’ve thought for a long time that Commerce should be pedestrian only with some creative uses. It’s mostly useless as a street and has so much potential.

Permits submitted for this! :exploding_head:

I’d love to see the Clearscapes upzoning development actually happen as well. Think with that, CAM block redevelopment and the Depot, this part of town (South Warehouse District) takes on a whole new identity!

Imagine trying to create a positive vibe and the city actually allowing that to happen. It truly is head exploding.

This is one of the more exciting downtown developments in a while. Could really go a long way to make the Warehouse district a destination

What is it supposed to be?

good question. still looks pretty abstract but i imagine we’ll have an answer pretty soon

Maybe is has something to do with how the street will be “zoned” in terms of uses? Has the street been taken off line and given over to the pedestrian?

It looks too random to be purposeful. Perhaps it’s just “art”?

Hot off the presses! There’s actually progress being made!

This is great. Would be incredible if this was being built out of red brick to match buildings. But I’ll take the more incremental approach

I’ll take it for sure instead of 2 more years of studies! I can’t quite figure out why they painted the street and then just slapped this over a section of it. It baffles me!
