Does anyone know if there will be a new street vendor in the woonerf? Or it’s essentially a street park?
great question. I don’t know of any active businesses facing this street currently?
I also don’t think those windows exist currently (or if they do, they’ve never been lit up like they are in the render, so I feel like they’re hinting at future activity of that space)
This building from asheville (pictures: 2008 to 2017) is a very similar building where windows were added some time ago. Pretty much the exact sort of transformation that could be expected here…
I like how they really “leaned into” it with the brick that was replaced clearly looking different than the original brick.
Wish they could have a patio facing the park though.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Over-muralizing!
Turns out the buildings already have all the windows depicted in the rendering. The building on the left is fine like it is, but the building on the right could use the “pack’s tavern” treatment on some of the blank wall.
Wonder if they’ll share any updates on the 10-story tower that was supposed to go in the back lot… there’s a translucent grey box rising up from behind the Martin St warehouse in that picture…
I’m taking the train back from Kannapolis that day! I’ll drop by and see what’s up.
I’ll go by as well for First Friday.
The place is really looking good. Stopped by and ran into some people from the meetups/here. Forgot to take pictures, but this will be a great spot, especially if they can’t get a restaurant on the corner.
What’s the new adjacent Turnbridge development they’re speaking of on that poster?
No site plan or renderings have been released, but Turnbridge has been planning something for a while.
The city employee I talked to while at the event seemed confident that a tower is still in the works, but it sounded like progress has been very slow. Seems like another project that has been sidelined by higher interest rates for now.
Could use a better name. Kinda sounds like artillery range practice.
Is that history right? Raleigh Union Depot (4) was at the corner of Dawson and Martin? That seems far from the tracks. And surely the W Martin Street 1935 photo (2) is located incorrectly on the map?
The tracks are gone, but the trains use to pull/back into the station. The history is correct. Discovering that the sorta iddly shapped office building face Nash Sq was the depot always shocks folks. (I know it did me)
I hate the name woonerf.
