I mean I’m trying my hardest to hit people, but those pedestrians are just so dang speedy!
Well like I said - Raleigh does have a reputation for shit drivers. Its not that hard, do better.
I thought you wanted higher traffic fatalities tho. ![]()
Right - do better. We could easily be best in class.
I think no matter what city, what downtown, what suburb you pick in the whole of US of A there will be the good and the bad. Personally, I like that I can say what I think in this forum. I try to be of good humor (ie
on buildings) but I also am more excited about the possibilities in the future. I get disappointed when a twenty story building gets downgraded to seven stories. But I also understand the dynamics and the market. I would rather we get this show rolling as I am not getting any younger lol. And the more we get on the ground, the more that will come. Do I wish it would come quicker, yes. Do I wish it were prettier, yes. But other cities have other way worse things to deal with. I will take Raleigh, warts and all.
Miami drivers say hold my cocktail.
Last night a driver hit a cyclist right in front of my building, and this is on a street that’s 25MPH and has protected and painted cycling lanes in each direction. The drivers consistently double the speed limit on the road and the cyclists often ride carelessly & recklessly. Frankly, I am shocked there aren’t more accidents.
The cyclist isn’t dead the last that I heard but is in critical condition. Let’s hope they survive.
We checked out the new Logan’s Trading Company space. It’s different but well laid out and pretty nice. I forgot to take picture of the actual place, but here’s some Venus fly traps and a rastafarian polar bear we saw there.
Fun fact. The Venus Fly Trap is native to NC: down east by Wilmington.
That is a fun fact. Not quite in the picture, that sign by it says that. There were some various pitcher plants and things too.
Curious minds want to know - did you take home a Venus fly trap or a polar bear - or just snap a few photos of your favorite things?
OMG, I love driving on Wade Ave! It’s one of the few roads that didn’t flatten the landscape and plow through like happened to Lynn Rd., Millbrook Rd., etc. when they were widened.
Wade Ave. allows you to feel the landscape of Raleigh: the rollie-pollie of it all. I especially love the S curve as you head east and after passing under Oberlin.
Leave it exactly like it is.
OK for all you weirdos, did you ever drive on it, like, not in the middle of the night (which seems like a great time to get hit by a drunk driver)? It’s filled with cars who brake going down hills at 35, people who won’t/can’t stay in their lanes, traffic, lights that prioritize secondary roads, people trying to take lefts that they can’t, and lanes that randomly get narrower. I’m not looking for a midnight racecourse; I’m looking for a quick connection to DTR from west Raleigh.
Wade Ave was my daily commute every morning for 2.5 years when I worked for a different firm. I preferred the Wade Ave stop and roll over the 70 to STOP that was the Beltline. However, I did (and do again) use the Beltline in the afternoon most workdays.
The speed limit is 35 mph so…
Ah yes you’re that guy
Well, its a residential street so I’m ok being that guy.
Wade Avenue was cobbled together in the 1960s to connect the Durham Freeway with DTR. It incorporated some streets from the late 1940s and early 1950s as well as some new construction primarily between Oberlin and what’s now called Capital Blvd. Of course, no one ever expected it to carry the volume of traffic that it does today. My hunch is that traffic on Wade has gotten worse subsequent to the road diet imposed on Hillsborough through NCSU. That’s quite a choke point at times, and people take Wade instead.
I’ve driven Wade many times during rush hour. I’d still rather drive it than the Beltline during rush!
Wade Avenue needs one of two things done to it: a raised median to disallow left turns, or to be brought down to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane.
OMG the chaos that would ensue tho! ![]()
