This has shifted back to “aerial connection” since then… so who knows.
Bottom line, if the “bold idea” is a strollway, the marketing team with the city needs to check their dictionary. There is no strollway next to the definition of bold.

Can’t post right now. On my way for a Bold Stroll ™ ![]()
It also says equity and community partnership. I’m betting on a bus route. How bold and exciting.
How about they covert that essentially unused rail line that goes form downtown to Dix into a nice multi use path / greenway.
Raleigh’s version of the High Line! If that track is truly unused, I love that idea! It’s the most direct and flat path from DT (at least the west side) to Dix.
I just looked at the map, there would have to be access from somewhere at the bend of Mountford and Cutler (near S. Boylan). It could also extend to Caraleigh and connect Caraleigh to the west side of downtown. Alas, I can’t imagine this actually happening in my lifetime, but one can dream.
Gondola is a grand slam idea and we shouldn’t accept anything else. Dedicated Gondola Bond + Pre-sell lifetime pass for $500 to fund it and let’s do it.
I think a well-designed strollway - especially a cool bridge over Western/MLK - could really feel bold if done right, especially when you’re driving north on McDowell into downtown and pass under it…
Perhaps you’re speaking of raleighartery.org?

Need some of these for a fun travel experience between downtown and Dix Park. They charge for a scenic rail tour with these “railbikes” up in the mountains. Andrews Valley Rail Tours up in the Western NC Smoky Mountains runs outings with them.
They also have versions for larger groups, power assisted versions, etc. Think bachelorette party bike but on existing unused rails. That’s the exact business model up in the mountains. (Obviously that would be a low capacity transport method but could be a fun way to go back and forth for next to no investment cost. Could pave the path next to it for walking, maybe lead to more modes of transportation back and forth, but this sort of novelty might catch on too. Instead of mountains and cows, maybe you’d get a glimpse of inmate in the prison and some sunflowers?

We can just divert the the Pullen Park train! ![]()
Nothing really controversial about this, but I thought it was interesting. Makes sense to want to keep the place safe and undamaged during the night, while not wanting to pay police officers to patrol all night.
Could someone with a TBJ subscription summarize or find key parts in this article?
The headline reads “As Dix Park evolves, future of historic hospital uncertain”. But that’s weird; we already know from the park’s master plan that the city is intending on keeping its facade while reusing it as a landmark/event space, and 10-year implementation plan and other supporting documents don’t contradict that idea.
It’s a nothing burger of an article. Basically just says turning the hospital into a hotel would be expensive and they’re looking at their options, like maybe housing Conservation Corps for now and then having RFPs down the road.
I’ve ridden through at night. I was approached by security and told I wasn’t allowed to ride my bike through. There wasn’t anyone else there other than 2 security guards. This was about 3-4 weeks after the opening. I figured they normally had patrols.
*rides bike into Dix Park at night*
*park security stops you halfway through*
“You can’t ride your bike in here at night.”
*floats away*
Skyline looks a tad different than the DTR I know!
If gondolas do actually happen, does this group get credit lol? I swear this idea was formed by someone in this group.
