According to this plan, the larger part of the Loop will be built between 2028-30 which will address ADA issues (through sidewalks and bike paths).
Does anyone have anything on what exactly the “Band Stand Reconstruction” is? I feel like this schedule is the first place I’ve seen it, and a quick search turns up nothing
How dare they count me in a clandestine manner!
Meet Pete: he lives in suburban Charlotte in the River District a new master planned community. He is single and ready to mingle with some of those up in Dix Park.
Are you just trolling us? ![]()
A number of things on this schedule have had their timelines moved up.
I get that, and more walking paths are certainly part of the master plan but no offense to anyone with mobility issues here but… it is a park… you are free and even encouraged to walk on the grass any and everywhere here ![]()
Not only is it a park, it’s hilly. I just want to be able to walk into the park from the south at either Hunt Drive or S Boylan on a sidewalk. I see people coming in and out of the park walking on the street, pushing strollers, etc. It’s simply unacceptable. Hunt is used by walkers all the time to go see the Sunflowers, and the S. Boylan entrance is the fastest way to get to Gipson Play Plaza. These should be an immediate priority.
At least the Umstead entrance has a sidewalk on one side.
Any more on this? Permitted?
Trolls appear to be a big hit. Lines 20-30 people deep, waiting to take a selfie with the trolls.
Rode through on my bike this afternoon. Park was packed.
Troll hunting is an actual thing. FB group and all. And having 5 in our backyard. Do the math. We are now a destination. ![]()
Way packed. Been coming to Dix for over a decade, and it was the busiest I’ve ever seen it on a non-event afternoon. BY FAR
Agreed. Most people I have ever seen at Dix, no question. (without some event going on).
It’s been this way for weeks. The trolls have clearly made a huge impact. I suspect that they will be especially interesting among the seasons! I’d love to see them in the snow!
Are the trolls having an equal or bigger impact on overall attendance as Gipson Play Plaza? Either way, this should be a shining example of what good public art can do.
I’d bet Gipson is benefitting from the trolls…..but, the stacking effect is real.
Something to watch as more elements are added to the park.
Parking has actually been pretty tough to find at Dix the past few weekends.
It’s time to build that downtown to Dix gondola to clear up the lack of parking at Dix.
Or it’s time to build better sidewalks so that more people who live adjacent can walk & bike and leave their cars at home.
I’d love to see both
