Being from St. Louis and went to WashU, I completely concur. I used to do my runs in the park since it’s so close to campus. Forest Park is one of the great features in the city. It’s great for families looking for things to do. The zoo in the park is free. They also have a world class science museum and a great amphitheater in the park that regularly has plays, concerts, etc, in the summer. I see no reason why Dix Park can’d do something similar for Raleigh as a family destination.

Happy to hear that the inaugural Dreamville Festival was a success. It is certainly an asset to have an outdoor festival space and it doesn’t hurt to have a NC artist help showcase our state and city. I look forward to hearing more about the impact on hotels. I imagine the impact will be uneven. Connection to bars, restaurants, and other night life is important after any large event like this but if everyone went. A transit connection to Downtown from the park is high on my wish list.

I would imagine that this will be a Yearly event, that Dreamville festival will come again next year. By then, more Hotels in DTR be built and Better transit shuttles to the event.

See…this has Been my argument for so Long…having more High rise Hotels in DTR and not some 9 story motel, for Events like Dreamville and others coming to DTR. maybe the demand for more Hotels is slow, BUT… there is a need. :hotel::hotel::department_store::bank:

Ultimately the real story here is that the park and the city can host events of this magnitude. It’s all well and good that Dreamville will be back for another year or more, but its impact will really be felt when it encourages more events of this size to be hosted by the park and the city.

Nice to see a park in Raleigh being able to host a festival of this size. This picture really puts it in prescriptive. I know it’;s a far cry from Central Park, but you think of all the “Concerts in Central Park” that get put on. There is no reason Dix could not host these type of events more regularly.

Are there any pictures like this but looking towards downtown?

Yep - And that’s not even the whole park. If my bearings are correct that may be about 1/3 or 1/4 of the total area of the park. I’m just going off memory when I jog through there. Someone might be able to do a google map overlay and get a more accurate proportion.

My point being that even if events like these become regular, they are not tying up the whole park. There is still plenty of park to go around for people that do not attend the concert.

Here is a rough version. Overall Dix park vs the part used for the festival.

Does anyone know the condition of the grass, and how much time it will take to remediate? I know that the festival is going to reimburse for restoration of the field, but I’m just curious how long it will take before the grass is ready to be enjoyed again in the park.

it looks beat to hell

I drove by and it didn’t look as bad as it could have. There was a lot of rutting on the edges from vehicles loading up stages and equipment after the rain.

I think it was a good time of the year for it since the grass will have time to recover before the heat gets here.

Thanks Drew, that’s great picture, gives a little of a NY Central Park vibe.
