I just climb over the barriers at this point.

Just the promise of the connector accelerates desire for the area. It’s like how stocks are priced on their company’s presumed future performance.

Exactly. I ride and run that route all the time. What possibly other connection could there be? A free trolley or something?

That map isn’t exactly correct. You can avoid that wishbone up to Mt Hope Cemetery by using Water Works St at Eliza Pool Park. Perhaps a half mile saved.

And what about connections between Dix and other parks with no existing connections? Carolina Pines park for example. It’s a 13 minute bike ride from Carolina Pines to Dix, but only insane people like me and @evan.j.bost actually bike on Lake Wheeler over I-40. Most people drive between those two parks because there’s not a safe, active transportation option. When the safest and easiest choice is cars, people choose cars. If we want to steer folks in another direction we have to provide real alternatives.

Bets on that 14th Lake Wheeler Road study having a curb separated bike lane recommendation in it? Great point by the way, and the south Lake Wheeler (called Rhamkatte way back when…the road and the community) area has been predominately African American and low income for 100 years or more…just doesn’t have the cache of Chavis. All the more reason to serve it properly.

We’re not #ITBlessed down here (2.9 miles from DT)

Actually, Kay Crowder told our HOA before the election that they’re using the Rosengarten Greenway funding toward some of these repairs. Supposedly they will be returning the funds to the Rosengarten project … someday.

WRAL posted an article about a possible increase in property taxes(of course) to help fund the next phases of DIX park. They still mention the land bridge across Western as a possibility.

Seeing how everyone’s property just got reassessed, I don’t see this going over well.

Bonds always pass. Mark my words. It will pass. And while not opposed to funding projects via bonds, it ends up being a bit of an open checkbook with not enough accountability.

Doesn’t mean your taxes will go up with the new reassessment. Wake County will lower the tax rate and probably only those whose value increased above average will see a tax increase.

A big question is: Will Raleigh officials go big, and choose the largest option?
…three options: $150 million, $200 million and $250 million.

Project out for bid now through the NC Dept of Agriculture for new “North Carolina State Farmers Market Access Drive and Improvements to Lake Wheeler Road”.

I vote go big and really make this park something to see. According to the article it will amount to about $20-$30 a month extra in property taxes. Count me in.

Wow - this is news to me. I try to pay attention to what’s going on in this area and have heard nothing on this.

And, I still see those !!$##% yard signs about ‘Saving the Market’. Oy!!
