Inside the 1950’s chapel on Dix campus that’s being renovated. I hope to see a musical performance there someday
Now that’s something that I can worship!
It’s an OK article…almost more of an opinion piece than anything else
So it looks like there will be a Parks and Recreation Bond on the ballot for Raleigh voters this fall:
It doesn’t include Dix Park, but the preliminary list features improvements at Chavis Park and others, as well as greenway investments.
My understanding is that City Council is planning/hoping that 3 bonds will be on the ballot in November:
- Affordable housing bond
- Parks and Recreation bond
- Dix park bond
@Christopher AND @Brian
I am personally a HUGE fan of bonds for Parks & Rec. With that said, thoughts on were Raleigh stands on a possible “Bond Overload” even with AH and DIX???
I think bond overload is a real possibility. I suspect the coronavirus situation will get significantly worse before it starts to get better. We could see the beginnings of a recession come October, possibly sooner. If that happens I don’t think people will be as excited to support tax-funded bonds.
Are municipal elections in October even in a presidential election year?
kind of off subject, but I think by October will be looking back at February as the beginning of a recession, or if keeps spreading and not fade with warmer weather as some think, Maybe worst than recession. .
Very timely to the above comments…
No, the next municipal elections will be in 2021. Any bonds put in front of the voters would only be on the ballots of those living in Raleigh.
Ok, but tell that to people that don’t make six figures. Just pointing out that the general populace are not recession-resistant, regardless if the “city” is. A recession would hurt a majority of voters everywhere, so it could definitely have an effect on bond support!
Well I don’t make 6 figures and the last recession affected me very little other than depressed 401K’s and no pay raises for a few years. And everybody I knew did okay in the last recession. Mortgages were not upside down as it was in many places across the country for example. The point is that the Raleigh area did much better than many places in the country during the last recession and it is expected that the same will happen with the next one. But obviously some people did lose their jobs, homes, and suffered but Raleigh citizens as a whole fared better than most of the country.
Recessions will effect almost anyone to some degree. In last recession I lost my $100k+ job. So everyone is subject to effects. I had resources to easy survive for the little over year it took to find a comparable new one. Even took month long vacation including 2010 worlds fair.i know if I were making 20k a year that would not have been case. Did take big hit on retirement accounts and other investments.
Dreamville is scheduled for April 4 at Dix Park, and there’s a stakeholder meeting this evening that neighboring residents were invited to attend.
We’ll see if the show goes on despite the coronavirus or if the festival is rescheduled yet again this year.
If they cancel, I just better get a refund…
I’ll mark my calendar now.
So I believe this is the site of the future amphitheater. It would be great if this building could somehow be repurposed to serve as an indoor/outdoor performance area. I assume that would be cost prohibitive but in my mind it’s a great idea.
I believe that’s the steam plant?
For now it is but it’s envisioned as the site of the amphitheater since they won’t be needing the steam plant any more. I don’t know how adaptable such a building would be but it would be cool if it could be re-purposed somehow.
EDIT: from the master plan it almost looks like they are going to try (or at least considering) and reuse both structures that are currently there.
