Raleigh has a new holiday tradition: Night of Lights at Dix Park. It will be a 1.3 mile drive of light decorations. Could be really cool.
Even though I’m not a huge fan of the plans for Dix, this is a good idea. With people looking for safe things to do with the family I think it would be a good idea to have this going for more than 2 weeks tho. Would think in the future at least from Thanksgiving to New Years. I grew up going to Tanglewood lights and the traffic back-up can be brutal most nights.
haha… that is exactly how I described it to my wife last night. I just wonder how much tickets will cost and if they will sell out quickly like the ones for Pullen Park do every year.
A home in Wake Forest has been doing this for a few years and was featured on some national TV show where select homes competed for the best Christmas lights - the traffic was horrible and it can take hours so you have to plan for that.
I hope that they have an option to walk through it as well. I’d rather do that!
I looks like Duke energy has granted $250k towards restoration and planning for the Rocky Branch Creek in Dix Park. It says this grant allows them to begin work.
I thought the plan was to make Dix more “pedestrian & less car friendly”???
This is something you would see in Clayton. Is the car focus temporary because of COVID?
I think it is temporary because of covid
I really hope the buildings built in Dix Park are made with earthly materials and are eco-friendly with solar panels or water recycling qualities
They also have a bike night, December 15th. Tickets sold out for that night in less than an hour though! I think it actually will be pretty awesome to bike through the lights. I hope they open up more tickets for that night.
Tickets did go quickly. Its been a long time since the Walnut Creek light show, there was a lot of pent-up interest for something along those lines.
You could see this from a mile away. Whoever decided to promote the heck out of this (which was a good thing) and then decided to only have it open for two weeks is not the brightest bulb in the strand. With this many people wanting something to do safely, out of the house…this thing should have run from Thanksgiving to New Years at the very least. Unfortunate
We have tickets for Friday night, but after the shitshow that happened last night, we’re not sitting in traffic for 3 hours with 3 kids in the car to see some Christmas lights. We’re just going to drive around N Raleigh and accomplish the same result. WRAL can keep their $18.
How about a livestream drone flyby?
Go check out Hill Ridge Lights. We went on a Tuesday and no wait at all. It’s around a mile long.
Christmas lights here are running above average. All this time “locked down” had a goodly number of people putting up more l lights. Or that is my impression, lol.
I doubled what I put up outside from last year too.
I’m second guessing it to. Might have better luck just driving around Bedford.
Good grief. I though they sold tickets with reserved time slots.
It looks like things have been modified going forward. Only 530-730pm time slots are available and all the 8-9pm slots will be removed. Says you can request a refund as well.
