Cary has some of the best dog parks in the area IMO. When I lived in Cary I was a member and you had access to the two, now three I think since they opened another, and had the entire play area covered in mulch. Has shady areas, trash bins everywhere, and water facilities for the doggos. I personally enjoyed the having floodlights out there so you could enjoy going later once the sun was down in the summer time. You had to pay to be a member, but you get what you pay for IMO.
Holly Springs has a very, very nice free and public dog park too. Very shaded and mulched over too.
Today I learned that Dorothea Dix is next to the NC Farmers Market. I’ve been to Dix Park countless times, how have I never known that until today lol?
None the less why do we have large fencing that blocks Dorothea Dix and the Farmers Market from each other, making them hard to access by foot?
As we improve Dix Park and the Farmers Market we should make these two cohesive. There should be signage on both properties promoting each other and a clear trail to access both.
i think it would be great to have more lunch and grab & go options from the farmers market vendors and be able to take them over to Dix Park for a nice picnic. it seems like a no brained for me
I believe the fencing is there because of security requirements for the food distribution section of the farmers market. I think there was talk of moving that section to a different location at some point in the future (remember all the “save the farmers market” signs?) to allow better connectivity with the park.
Yep! Page 64 of the Dix master plan (link) shows a proposed pedestrian route into the farmer’s market.
The master plan also mentions connectivity to the farmer’s market a lot, so I think it’s desired it’s just a matter of coordination and agreement between the two parties.
Dix Park will be the host of this year’s Fourth of July celebrations!
…and next Tuesday, City Council will talk about making ABC11 the presenting sponsor and exclusive media partner for the event! If their bid is approved over WRAL’s, ABC11 will donate $75,000 to this event, as well as an additional $75k in in-kind sponsorships in return (though it’s not clear what those “professional services” will entail).
While I certainly agree with you sentiment, just look at the change already in Devereux Meadows Park. I know apple an oranges, but it seems to be a prevalent theme throughout DTR
