Dorothea Dix Park

Wow that does look nice!

I just still have concerns about how we can integrate Dix with downtown.
I don’t want it to feel like Pullen which is an amazing park but feels like you have to drive to.
Once again leads back to the freakin prison just being in the way.

When is construction starts

July I believe . . .

Okay that’s good news

I’m curious (and hopeful) to see if the city of Raleigh continues to bring this back. With all the downtown hotel construction (proposed and underway) and Dix supposedly beginning it’s construction, I feel this festival will continue to scale up and provide even more economic benefit to the city. $6.7 million ain’t nothin to laugh at…

EDIT Not sure I have seen this anywhere but local CBS ran a similar story, had some more stats, but most importantly said planning is underway for Dreamville 2023?

The city of raleigh doesn’t really have anything to do with it, except I guess approving permits. But the article says the people who do put this on plan to come back next year. Agreed, great event for Raleigh and should only get better as Dix improves.

The 80k people is also a bit misleading.
It’s not 80k people that potentially stayed in hotels (obv some locals) as some people went both days, but it is 40k people that spend money on Saturday and 40k people that spend money on Sunday, so that would be 80k.

Hey, don’t let your logic get in the way of a good headline

I am pretty sure that I said the exact same thing right after the 80k number was announced. Great to have such a big event, but I feel the 80k number is a bit misleading.

A Dix Music Festival similar to Austin City Limits would be amazing. The success of Dreamville shows it’s possible. ACL brings in 75k/day for 6 total days (2 weekends). I don’t imagine we’d have 2 weekends of demand, but NC doesn’t currently have a pre-eminent festival.

Dix is also large enough to accommodate campsites if we don’t have the hotel capacity yet, which could also bring in money for the park. Firefly in DE charges between $200 and $2000 for campsite experiences.

Real talk, if PNC arena put out a statement saying “Hurricanes 2nd round playoff series draws 80,000 fans” would either of you be saying “well that’s misleading because there were 4 games, yada yada yada” while trying to throw shade and minimize the impact the Hurricanes have had during the playoffs…the same way you’re minimizing the incredible impact Dreamville had (and will continue to have)? The answer is no. Ask yourself why, I think most people know.'s

That’s a seriously messed-up allegation.

Uhhhh, what? First; totally different comparisons. Second, @Nickster didn’t “minimize the impact” that Dreamville had whatsoever - he was pointing out the inaccuracy of a news headline. Third, are you fucking serious with this?

I see this all the time with attendance talking about events, games etc though. Lots of sporting events gloat about how many total fans they had come through even though over half or more were repeat attendees.
I don’t know if I’d go as far as saying it’s misleading when it’s typically industry standard to report in that manor.

Ya’ll didn’t get memo? It’s 2022, everything’s racist nowadays.

I much prefer your response to the “other”.
I’d actually like to know how many unique people went to the show. This is in no way an attempt to minimize anything. The $ amount reported is amazing and that speaks for itself. That’s said, data is good and I like to understand various perspectives. Cool, 80k people. How many were from out of town? Maybe some bus stats for the transportation to/from the event. I’d also be interested in more of a breakdown on the revenue. How much from hotel, food/bev off event, food/bev on event, merch.

We probably won’t get that granular but I’d find it interesting and maybe even valuable. Regardless, BIG success!!

The news said that people from all 50 states and 25 countries attended the festival.

What a great event for our city. Not my thing, but a great city will offer options for entertainment for ALL people. Never a whimper about bluegrass (:+1:t3:) or nightly state fair fireworks. Love diversity of city sponsored entertainment.

Fourth of July fireworks will be held this year at Dix Park! This is going to be much better viewing for downtowners!
