Fun was had today.

Right, we need more of this done across the entire park. Hopefully that’s already planned. The parking area along the Hunt Drive entrance needs this treatment.

The park vibes were great tonight. Such a good addition to the city - there’s something for everyone.

The bike rack was pretty full today.

Looking at the Weld

Given that there were storms coming up, we ended up heading back towards home. One major advantage of the greenway is that we were able to take shelter under Lake Boone (or other potential tunnels) as the storm passed.

Man - All these pictures are great - Including ones everyone else has posted.

My kids are teenagers, and out of playground age, but what a wonderful looking playground. I am going to have to venture over one of these days and check it out in person.

We rode our bikes over there yesterday. I am just in awe. This is going to be HUGE for Raleigh. There were kids there but also people of all ages. Just out strolling and hanging out in the field with hammocks or playing corn hole. Huge I tell you, huge.

It is a really lovely space, not just for kids! I walked around there last night and they have some cool lighting set up for the grand opening, so just until tonight 8:30-10pm. You would get a nice view of the sunflowers at least just driving by on Lake Wheeler Road if you don’t have time to take a stroll inside:

Found the goats enjoying the DTR views.

My only issue is that, as far as I know, Kudzu needs to be completely uprooted to be eradicated. I’m VERY thankful for the goats’ service, and I have much respect for the work they’re putting in - but once they’re part is done, I don’t think that means the kudzu won’t just… come back

Btw the Brown building, which you’ve pictured here:

…is what’s slated to become a food hall/events space. I’m glad to know it will be repurposed because it’s one of the buildings that has some character on the property!

I feel like I stay pretty up to speed but I was shocked at how nice this turned out and how big it is. It’s almost an amusement park, nand I still can’t believe that it’s just open for free downtown.

Once the Lane Wheeler improvements are finished this whole side of town will be unrecognizable. I’d expect development between the RR tracks and Centennial to go into overdrive. Really good to get a win every once in a while.

There are two approaches, which also work for English ivy, poison ivy, etc.:

  1. Once the goats have cleared the overgrowth, the remaining kudzu root crowns are left. Once those have resprouted a few leaves, they’re prime targets for targeted herbicide. Herbicide on kudzu (or any woody) is most effective closest to the roots and in summer-fall, but it’s difficult to find (much less spray) the roots with acres of vines and leaves hiding them – which the goats are happy to help reveal.
  2. If you have a few years, you can just bring goats in for several years in a row; repeated grazing will exhaust many plants.

Monday evening started crowded but pretty manageable. By 7:30 it’s fairly chill.

This is a great park y’all. If we’d discovered this touristing in another city it would have been a highlight. Just soaking it in before it becomes too familiar.

By the time it becomes too familiar - there will be a whole new section of the park that’s been completely revamped for your exploration!

It almost looks like a zoological park, especially the entrance that was posted previously by @Daniel. The artwork hanging from the trees and the lighting at night is wonderful. In fact, I love every part of this project and look forward to to each successive phase. Thanks to everyone for posting these wonderful photos!

Unfortunately I think the tree hangings may have been removed, or at least I didn’t see any. Possibly due to the high winds and spotted storms going through lately.

I think the tree art and interactive lighting might’ve been specific to the grand opening…

I hope not! The lighting looks awesome, should be a permanent thing. As for the tree art, I like that too, but could see why that’s temporary

10 year implementation plan… up to 2025: Next project is Lake Wheeler Rd

Then, The Grove/ Creek area 3 and Lineberger & Brown renovations.

Then, Creek area 2 & Ridge. I thought I saw something about some of the other demos being fasttracked for efficiency?
