Sensationalism sells advertising. But I agree that it is not the best source for info.
I know for some this is possibly behind a paywall, but Tepper is working on ideas for the Bank of America stadium. I may be reading this wrong, but is he trying to squeeze a MLS field in to the property?
yes…he is
My dad brought up a good point…maybe the Charlotte announcement was the next round we were supposed to get. Now, I’m kinda confused where they fit in the whole scheme, whether it is essentially for the next round, but seriously, if we don’t get the team, that’s a lot of tax money wasted.
Maybe this is just me being cynical, but I always kind of got the impression Tepper’s bid for MLS was essentially so he could ask for more BOA money from Charlotte. Charlotte just pumped a bunch of money into BOA renovations just a couple of years ago (2014) but with the necessary changes needing to be made for MLS - well he can sell that value to the decision makers in Charlotte a lot more easily.
Anyway - just my 2 cents. From way outside looking on.
Tepper’s milking charlotte for all they got. Plus he just got a handout from SC to build the training complex south of the border. Gotta love all this corporate welfare to billionaires.
It’s amazing how undeveloped Hammond Rd is. It’s been around for 20 years? and still is just mostly trees the whole way from 70 to the beltline.
I say this all the time. It’s a main road leasing into downtown and still feels like your in the forest.
So in a matter of weeks, charlotte USA coughs up not $100 million that was requested but they decide to toss in a bonus $10 million while Raleigh continues to “study” it.
This is why we can’t have nice things…
On the topic of forests, the tree removal for apartments near Merideth is a travesty. Can the city offer incentives of some sort to preserve our grand oaks? City of Stumps.
Buck, can you point me to where those apartments are going please - as I am an out-of-towner now and can’t just drive by. Thank you!
It was all those glorious old oaks along Hillsborough between Montgomery and Furches. Basically east of Snoopy’s where that old frat house was.
And I completely agree, it’s a crying shame to see this happen—not to mention the others at Hayes Barton Baptist, Nash Square, all along Wade @ 440, I-40 by the airport, etc. etc. I get that some of them were dying, and they had to be removed, but many are just fine but are being removed to have this insanely wide highway easement or other reasons. Drives me nuts.
I work near here (corner of Hillsborough and Gorman/Faircloth) and will try to get a photo. Looks like a big bomb went off or an F5 tornado came through.
dang, I hate that. I had a tornado come through my back yard almost 2 years ago. We bought in this neighborhood because it reminded me of Raleigh - all the mature trees. Now most of them are gone. Personally, we lost about 70 trees (its a big lot). You adapt, but it does leave a permanent mark on the land and your soul.
Yeah and there also used to be trees where everyone of us lives right now sometime in the past. Most trees on any lot under construction will not survive the process. It is what it is.
We’ve also learned from the Nash Square experience that trees have a lifespan as well, and need to be replaced. They look glorious though near the ends of of their lives; I wish that were the case for us humans as well.
Not to get too far off topic, but here are some pics near the corner of Hillsborough & Faircloth. Red awning in lower left is Snoopy’s
I certainly understand losing trees for development - but this was my neck off the woods, so its sad for me to see. I rode by here at night (from Raleigh Brewing) so missed this completely.
I hope they at least bury the electrical wires.
Sorry, so what is going here? Are those houses leaving too?
