Anyone know if these updates to City Plaza are still planned for this year? I vaguely remember 2026 being mentioned last year as the start date.

This is great, but Fayetteville Street clearly has found itself in another slump. The office worker crowd has still not returned to pre-COVID levels, and there are many places that are more convenient with more options: Glenwood South/Smoky Hollow, North Hills, and in the next 5-10 years DTS and Lenovo Center. It can’t just be dependent on government workers, conference attendees, and events.

There will also be an increase in the residential population from city gateway and salisbury square.

I would disagree that Fayetteville Street is in a slump. There is a decent amount of foot traffic almost everyday of the week and as we have seen over the past year plus, a bunch of new restaurants have filled up most vacant retail spaces.

While I would like to see more residential, which Vatnos points out is coming, at the end of the day if the sidewalks are full of people spending money at shops, restaurants, and cafes, I don’t really care “why” or “where” they come from.

I was just asking about the City Plaza update because I live right above it and am looking forward to it hopefully becoming a cooler (temperature wise) meeting place for people during the warmer months.

Currently, City Plaza is not the most comfortable place to sit for extended periods of time when the sun is baking down on you with all the glass and concrete surrounding you. It could definitely use some more cover, that is not just a pop up umbrella.

I agree, it seems higher traffic than I have seen in years. Once these new projects complete it’s going to be a different story altogether as well.

I like the “main street” direction of Fayetteville St but it does still feel dead on most days. I’m hopeful the updated RCC, RHA, Omni and other residential coming online will give it a big boost. One thing hurting it indirectly is Wilmington St being in a very poor state

I know it didn’t work last time but I do think there is a case to make it pedestrian only again. Could put an antique trolly running up and down the street as something of a functional attraction.

Fayetteville St. seemed decently lively last Friday night. I will admit that there are sections which are probably livelier than others. I’m expecting the southern part to get a little busier once Voodoo Brewing opens. Unless Fayetteville St is lined with bars/restaurants/stores that remain open until 9PM or later, I don’t think the entire section will ever be completely live. A huge part of it is going to be the businesses that go in as well. S Wilmington definitely had quite a bit of foot traffic near Exchange Plaza.

On a separate note, something needs to be done about the gravel lot on the corner of Wilmington St / Martin St. The Amrut restaurant seemed like such a nice restaurant, but that gravel lot really seemed to take away from the overall area. Still this area had quite a bit of foot traffic.

Hot pink carpeting on the Martin Marietta plaza. Don’t think it’s permanent.

Well, that is certainly something. I guess its better than lime green!

It almost gives off a red carpet :red_square: effect. As if something important might be going on at this intersection. :seafoam_green:

That pink carpet would have been great for Breast Cancer Awareness month.

I’m guessing that’s for Pendomonium.

This had Bistro 401 in it previously, right? I never made it there and never heard anyone talk about it.

I went twice and was underwhelmed each time.

As soon as I heard their name they were destined to fail

hey, they stole the name of that art hub, “coming soon”
