Five Points, East End Market, & Raleigh Iron Works

Kind of funny as it’s a lib bastion of hell.

Hate to inform but there’s racism on both ends of the spectrum, liberal-racism just ends up being more backhanded/implied vs the outright and blatant racism of conservatives. Two sides, same coin. Welcome to America.

Planning Commission meeting on the Whitaker Mill / Bernard rezoning moved to 11/22

Fairview / Bickett Building needs some additional materials in its application. I’d assume the meeting is still happening on Thursday.:

1120 E. Whitaker Mill PC meeting deferred to 11/22

Man they sure keep pushing things back…

The PC of push.
Probably pushing to get a gauge of the “new” CC once elected? Not sure they should care. Make your recommendations and let them CC take it from there.

The auto repair shop on the NE corner of Whitaker Mill and Wake Forest has cleared out. I wonder if this lot will get included in the East End development.

Good we have some time to get this through as quick as we can because we really are f#&cked.

I seem to recall that exact property fighting back and refusing to sell… so this is an interesting development

I wonder if the Bison will stick around.

Place just SCREAMS white trash so I certainly won’t be upset whenever they dip out

I’ve been there a couple of times 10 years ago when I lived closer and had friends that liked it. It was probably the worst bar I’ve ever been to lol. I think there’s shootings and stuff there periodically now. I also won’t be sad to see it go if it does. No judgement if anyone on here just really likes it.

I hope so, that place is like my second home lol. Curious to know why you think it’s the worst though? It’s one of the most (if not the most) welcoming bars I’ve been to out here.

The car place that cleared out was CarFix. It’s on the opposite side of the street as the Bison. I really wish it was Tabola Auto that closed. That place is such an eyesore and I hate how their parking lot sticks out, making it a huge pain to turn right from Wake Forest onto Whitaker Mill.

Personally, I don’t really care about the Bison. I’ve never been but the shootings/stabbings are concerning. However, I’d be devastated if Jerry’s closed. It’s the only greasy spoon lunch place within walking distance!

I wouldnt say i think its the worst. During the day and early evenings it seems like a perfectly fine dive to havw a drink and watch some football. But the people that go there on weekend nights really suck.

I live on Fairfield Drive, the dead end street directly accross from the Bison. My partner and I both work late hours so we routinely get home from work after midnight. Thursday through Saturday, cars park illegally at the end of that street, on both sides, making it very difficult to turn onto my street. If there were ever an emergency, fire trucks and ambulances would not be able to get onto my street. Ive had people yell at me just for turning onto the street multiple times.

When the bar closes at 2, the party continues outside in the parking lot and in the street until 3 or 4. There is a ton of trash along the street every weekend night without fail - cups, liquor bottles, beer cans, blunt wraps, fast food trash, pizza boxes. Blasting music in their cars. Fights and people screaming in the street. People doing burnouts. People revving motorcycles. There is a ton of drunk driving, people who are visibly hammered getting into their cars and have been drinking in the street for an hour speeding down the street. Every single weekend.

I lived downtown for 6 years and am no stranger to the late night noise of living near bars. The Bison late night crowd is a whole different ballgame and they are the absolute worst.

I’m sorry to hear that, and I agree on everything, I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Even I wish there parking situation was better and the weekend crowd wasn’t so inconsiderate, so I can only imagine how you feel. I was moreso talking about the general vibes, the bartenders, the friendly mixed crowds, and the great drink prices.

The people that bought/will buy at the begining of Hilton st (1800 / 1804) will like it for sure .

I’ll just preface this by saying this was at least a decade ago, and I’d only been a couple of times, and if you or other people find it friendly and fun, the that’s cool with me.

For my experience, there was no draught beer, not really any good beer, limited bottom shelf liquor, and tiny airplane bottles of like Sutter Home wine. The place smelled bad, the interior was unattractive, the crowd was pretty rough with most people very hammered, and all the other stuff that was mentioned in the last post. It just wasn’t the kind of place I’d visit personally. Since then I’ve seen them in the news for various negative things. Overall I’d just be fine if they closed down and got replaced with something better.

The lot directly south of Iron Works got approved for 20 story rezoning.
Nicole Stewart brought up the lack of good sidewalks and bike infrastructure. It sounds like both the city and the Iron Works developer are working on connecting it, and will continue to work on it. This development is looking at doing this as well, and bikeshare either here or nearby in the greenway area. It would be great if this all comes together over the next few years.
