Nice drone video of the Iron Works development on LinkedIn. Feel this part of Raleigh will be buzzing once all the tenants have moved in and that (pie in the sky) pedestrian bridge is in place.

This still reminds me of something I’d see in Denver or GVL, in a good way. This will definitely be a great addition to our downtownish, especially with more on the way. It also goes to show that not everything needs to be tall and new if old and short can be repurposed well.

I’m personally a fan of adaptive reuse projects like this. Blending older history with the new structure/building is a win win IMO. Wouldn’t mind seeing more projects like that around town.

Has there been any news on what’s going on for the East End Market next phases? It seems like that lot has been ripped up but untouched for a while. Sorry if I’ve missed it here. Also is there a compiled list of things coming to Iron Works? I’m recently new to the area, moving from downtown to off Whitaker Mill, and trying to catch up on the projects here.

Anyone know what’s going on with 1622 Glenwood Ave? This is the spot in 5-points that used to be Churchills. Looks like a country/honky tonk bar is going in called: Uncle Jessie’s Honky Tonk & Saloon. Let’s call it UJ’sHT&S.
Website says opening Winter 2022. A TBJ article from 8/2022 says the same group behind UJ’HT&S also runs Lola’s Beach Bar at 1803 Glenwood.
Wondering if Uncle Jessie’s is just dealing with some unforeseen delays, or if it’s on longer-term hiatus. If the latter I guess I’ll just keep going to the Boar’s Nest.

If you talk to Larry the owner (also owner of Lola’s) he blames the City……but I am am suspicious he got a bit overzealous in what he “assumed” he could just do……
I also think he is in for a rude awakening thinking he can have live “plugged” music blasting out back.
I told him the story if the old Five Points Bar……not sure he listened.
Told him to do 2 things:

invite the neighborhood to come regularly. The minute it turns into Churchills 2.0 or something along Glenwood South……he will be toast

This one mentions a potential extension of Witaker Mill to Laurelbrook St and/or Peden Steel Dr. It’ll be interesting to see how that works out, and how well Iron Works and the development on Wicker end up meshing together.
