I think it’s kind of risky to name your business after a character on the Dukes of Hazard these days. I used to love it growing up, but it has not aged well IMO, with the whole confederate flag “General Lee” car and all.

I think it will automatically limit the potential clientele (especially with the 5-points ITB crowd). But maybe they are going after a certain demographic, and don’t care. But it’s not my business, and not my money. Will be interesting to see how long it sticks around.

Yeah maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t have high hopes for it. It seems like a strange location for the vibe they’re going for.

Caught on the way to dinner at Seoul Garden, the long “Coming Soon” project at the NW corner of Atlantic and Six Forks now has a bulldozer and a huge pile of dirt!

Yeah I’m happy about it in the sense of “it’s better than a vacant lot” but hoo boy is there room for improvement

Yeah, I guess it’s better than nothing at all being there (and maybe it’ll add some new sidewalks?) but the form is not ideal since this area will be building up some solid density in the future. Especially if there ends up being a commuter rail station right next door as proposed in the preliminary plans for a Wake Forest - Sanford line.

Seems like Concepts A, G, and I are the ones left for consideration.

My guess is that Concept A seems the likeliest. I like G, but also wonder if a pedestrian would ever get to cross with constant traffic flow? And if side street traffic would get into the roundabout?

I would be shocked if it was not A as I assume that is both the quickest and cheapest option. It’s also unclear to me how much it would improve things if any. I also prefer G but would like to hear some feedback from the board traffic experts on the 3 options

As a pedestrian here, I like shifting the crosswalks. As a driver, I like the adjustment to the signal timing - but I guess that would result in more delay time? Probably worth it to not deal with dumb people not understanding left turns yield to straight movements.

G would be best for traffic, but worse of pedestrians and cyclists. That would be a nightmare to navigate on foot or bike, without traffic ever coming to a complete stop.

Something like this (but less elaborate) would help.

Not sure I agree on this. Hear me out. In my experience along Hillsborough in front of and around NC State there appears to be a car vs. pedestrian culture shift in progress. At the numerous roundabouts and associated crosswalks along Hillsborough what I’m seeing and experiencing is drivers learning to expect pedestrians and understand that they stop/yield to them. Hillsborough is designed to slow traffic and allow more free flowing pedestrian movements and it appears to be working. If we can implement similar designs (like Concept G) in other parts of the city we may be able to extend that culture shift and see drivers come to expect pedestrians and automatically stop/yield to them. I think stopping/yielding to pedestrians seems like less of a hassle to drivers when they’re already in a slow-speed environment.

My take from a driver’s perspective is that these slow-speed designs don’t feel like the inconvenience they may seem to be because you keep continuously moving through the intersection/corridor unless there is something immediately in front of you, which you obviously don’t want to hit, then you stop/yield. At signal controlled intersections drivers often sit stopped at red lights with no reason to stop other than the light being red. There’s something about being able to continuously move through a space (or nearly continuously) that seems to make the slow-speed environment much more tolerable to a driver.

Looks like Concept C is also still on the table, but modified to where Glenn Ave becomes a one-way outbound and Fairview Ave stays in “the current configuration.” Does that mean the existing configuration, or the configuration proposed in Concept C?

I read it as existing configuration. Really didn’t seem like much is included with this so might as well just ignore this concept altogether.

I think I like the original “C”. But if they are going to keep the one of the lanes open on the closed streets, it kind of is almost like current conditions.

That option was always a non-starter since Fairview is needed for the Elementary School.
