Future of Glenwood South

Reminds me of my time in college when Downtown Sports Bar was the place to be on Glenwood.

Didn’t Mecca used to be open super late? I feel like I remember going there at like 2:00a once like ten years ago, but maybe I’m thinking of something else.

Yes. They (did) serve liquor into the wee hours not that long ago.

Ah that makes me sad. Wish it was a diner today haha.

Unfortunately, until the pandemic subsides, there will probably be no all nighters.

And before the diner was Hard Times Cafe! I used to love their chili!

So the best late-night food spot will be Demo’s then in GS? I guess pizza will never go out-of-style after late night drinks.

Several years ago we stayed at a hotel in Savannah that came equipped with a white noise machine that worked really well to drown out the nightlife and street noise. We liked it so much we bought the same one after living next to a college party house and dealing with noise … on Willard St behind the new AC hotel!

I guess they need to get those noise machines for their rooms.

Not far from downtown, and not so long ago, there was also the old IHOP on Hillsborough. There were PLENTY of late night meals eaten by me and my drunk-ish friends.

Thankfully the Hillsborough St Waffle House is still around. Have had a few 2am Saturday night Waffle House runs over the years.

There’s also a 24 hour Denny’s on Wake Forrest at the beltline.

There was also an all night biscuit place on Hillsborough. I believe it was called Time Out or something like that.

I remember & went to TimeOut in Chapel Hill, but never heard of one in Raleigh

It was the same owners I think. If I remember correctly it was on the corner of Hillsborough and Dixie Tr. where the Stanhope CVS is now

That’s right. I went a few times when I was at State.

Ah. I missed those years. That local is close enough to my childhood home to walk!!

Did anyone else catch this on the Wire Thread? Is this new or something we already had on our radar? The link to the COR page is for something near Garner, but the addresses are in Glenwood South… Same block as the Rockford.

I noticed that as well. Seems like a mixup somewhere.

Its the rezoning for the Centerline block. I seem to remember they mentioned that the Rockford and Tin Roof buildings would be left as is but included in the application for consistency?

Anyone got the full info on this article? Sounds like a developer bought the properties where My Way Tavern & Total Row Fitness sit.
