I was ok, nice modern style furniture, and few other little touches, but for me not worth $300. Next night was at a Fairfield (also Marriott brand) in Southport for $120 that was almost identical room. Main different is Fairfield had carpet instead of laminate flooring. Also free parking and free breakfast at Fairfield. Where both were $15 extra at AC. Then I’m not all that picky about hotels as long as decent and in safe location. Just stayed there to see if $300 made a big difference, not really. Maybe if want to stay in party district downtown and party until bars close maybe worth it.
I saw a lot of St Louis Blues fans there.
It’s interesting. There’s a Courtyard on Bourbon Street in New Orleans I stayed at one time and I fully expected the noise to be intense but you couldn’t hear the chaos outside at all because it was so well sound insulated.
Future hotels on Glenwood should keep the noise in mind and invest in materials accordingly.
$300/night? Ouch. I don’t think I’ve ever stayed anywhere for $300/night. I’d stay at the DoubleTree or Holiday Inn. I figured the AC hotel would either be loud from the bars or loud from people who were out partying at night staying at the hotel. I wouldn’t expect it to be a quiet place (but for $300 I would expect to have a good night).
I’m also not really sure where AC falls on the spectrum of Marriott hotels. The Sheratons I’ve stayed at were a bit underwhelming. Four Points as well. I haven’t had really any bad experiences otherwise.
Typical low rate I’m seeing throughout December is $161/night right now. $300/night is excessive for Raleigh and high for an AC Hotel property in general.
The Marriott app rates our convention center hotel on Fayetteville St a 5 star while all the other brands in DTR are 4s.
The stuff by the airport are 3s for comparison.
Raleigh doesn’t have a 6, at least in the Marriott ecosystem.
That’s a five star hotel?
IMO, the only Five Star in Raleigh serves Chinese food!
$299 was rate I was quoted even with membership and senior discount. I actually only paid $15 for parking. Use a free night I get each year at any 1-5 rated Marriott hotel and did not pay the $15 for Breakfast. Do my actual cost was $15 - lol.
Here is price for one night without discounts.
Let’s see how those rates hold in the face of so much noise that their guests can’t sleep. If I’m paying that much money to stay in a hotel in Raleigh, I don’t think that a pair of disposable ear plugs is going to make it okay for me.
I stayed in midtown Manhattan for much less than that price this past Summer!
Marriotts “tier” system is not on the same scale as what you are probably thinking, which is closer to the “diamond” AAA tiers.
Marriotts reward tiers actually run on a 1-8 scale.
Hopefully in the future we can land more of their premium brands, although getting a luxury brand would be ideal. The AC is not considered to be either.
AC is a 4 on Marriott’s scale, high end of standard hotels but not resort or door man lux. To stay at an 8 you will need to be a millionaire or mortgage your house.
Just got this from AC about noise: “The city of Raleigh is currently working on that because it is affecting different business on glenwood avenue”. Wonder how long will take for changes to be made?
Street vendor hours will be cut from 3 AM to 1:30 AM on Glenwood South.
Do not think that would do much to quieten the clubs.
Many of them have already lowered volume on their music, according to service folks I have talked to.
What’s the reasoning for that decision?
I miss when Glenwood South had an all night diner. One needs to return.
Do we have any downtown? I miss those in Atlanta there were so many.
There was one on Glenwood at the creamery.
How long ago was that? Would kill for a great all day/night diner again on Glenwood.
Before it was Pine State, it was XOCO Mexican, before that is was Dos Taquitos, then before that the Diner.
Almost 10 years now.
