Future of Glenwood South

I truly feel bad for those people that got their Cars broken into, Security should be Beefed up real good, But as more development along Glenwood south continues, maybe Glenwood should be Foot traffic only and limit the amount of traffic or cars rather to just residents only and bus service traveling down Glenwood South. This is where you need some form of transit to get you to and from G.S.
I avoid Glenwood as much as I can, but…if I’m meeting friends for dinner or going to a bar, I ride the GoRaleigh bus to G.S. and then after a night of fun, a Uber home. Just wish that Buses run until 3am. But…that’s me thinking out loud.

If folks are being assaulted or shot at after 2AM, or having their cars being broken into at that hour, are you sure that you want to ride a bus at 3? I’d rather pay the Uber.

I’m a city kid at heart, so I’m used to walking around town at 3, 4, or 5am in the morning, it depends on where you are, not that Im looking to get mugged or shot at. Besides, Im not out that late anyway. I do understand where you’re coming from, and I would take an Uber too, One has to be aware of what is going on and around you.

I’m a city kid too, but my days of being out that late are long over. If I made it to midnight it’s an achievement!

I’d rather ride the bus… you’re around other people in a well lit spot.

Amen, brother. Same here.

I like midnight and staying up past 2am and partying.

I think Glenwood south should be like 6th street in Austin just close down that section to vehicles get everyone outside, and beef up patrols that’ll change it imo. Furthermore, with the presence of people that reduce crime because then the criminal will be caught in 4K.

Glenwood South could benefit from better sidewalks. You wouldn’t know from looking at them that this was Raleigh’s “premiere nightlife district”. It gets worse when you go east and discover Harrington st has no sidewalks at all in some sections–in the downtown of the 2nd largest city in the state not far from the State Capitol. Shame.

I felt safe in Baltimore at Fells Point on the weekend nights. Patrols were pretty high there. Most people had a good time.

Agreed. Shut down Glenwood South on the weekends to cars between Peace St and Jones St.

How will the cops and ambulances get in for the shootings though?

What I hear statements like that it makes me laugh. People act like we’re closing down every street within the area. Shootings will continue to happen until there’s gun control legislation, but that’s always a different topic for a different discussion board.

There’s always going to be some crime in areas with a huge concentration of drunk young people (and it will be gun crime in states with legal guns), but I also agree a more visible police presence would be nice.

Yea, we should make it against the law to commit gun violence. That’ll stop it.

I, um, was just being ironic. :man_shrugging:

The biggest problem with the traffic on Glenwood is the cruising culture. Does everyone from Benson and Dunn come to Raleigh on Friday and Saturday night?

Lol, it sure seems like it. My favorite are the Harley’s running straight pipes that have their speaker system full blast over the sound of their exhaust.

I mean… what the hell do you in Benson or Dunn on a Saturday if you’re under the age of 35?

Don’t ya’ll just love how every thread on this forum somehow reverts back to stereotypical liberal talking points eventually? Atp you should probably just cave and create a politics thread @dtraleigh. That’s obviously what the people want. Because until that happens, people like me who genuinely come on this forum looking for insight into actual news/developments are going to keep seeing unnecessary remarks about drag queens and gun control instead of what we all come here for. Cause many of you know already…I’ll get this thread locked up quick, so I try my best to just shutup and ignore the rhetoric.
