Future of Glenwood South

I loved Devolve!! Such a unique place. Loved to go there and have coffee. Wish they would have put more focus on the bar/coffee and less retail though

The one time that I tried to grab coffee there for me and my elderly mother, we were ignored. The baristas took orders from their friends, socialized with their peeps, and completely ignored that I was standing there waiting to order. I’m not talking about waiting a few minutes. I stood there for 10 minutes and tried to get their attention, but they couldn’t be bothered. To make matters worse, when their friends walked in the door after I had been standing there all that time, they immediately served them. I guess that I wasn’t cool enough?
Prior to that, I had made a point to buy house gifts, t-shirts, stocking stuffers and small luxury items from them to show my support for their business. After that snub, I stopped shopping there.

John, I always had good service in the retail section but also bad service at the bar. Not sure what the disconnect there was.

It will be interesting to see how ‘Unlikely Professionals’ does in the former Oak City Cycling space. It’s pretty much the same clothes and scene. However, they do have more of a focus on clothing and less on trinkets and gifts (which is what i mostly bought at Devolve).

Male focused retail is a TOUGH market.

I love that store name!!!

I actually really do NOT like the name, but love the store - some cool stuff in there, and even some vintage/second hand clothes which is cool.

My opinion: The experiment of creating a place that attracts motorcycle riders, applying its cool factor, and then merging it with a clothing boutique unfortunately failed to attract the necessary retail customers.

Riders swarmed the place on weekends, neighborhood residents frequented their coffee shop, but visitors were not converted to customers of the relatively expense retail, despite the stock being very attractive and high quality.

Thanks! I appreciate the insights on the former Devolve Moto but I guess what I meant was whats the latest on the redevelopment project of said space? Dan L has a lot going on multiple venues but I didn’t see much progress from the street

Don’t know the timing. Maybe someone else has some insight. Dan L. usually has multiple projects lined up that can take years to develop.

Looks like a minor fire broke out in the Devon last night. No injuries, but two units were damaged.

And by water, not the actual fire. It’s almost as if wood-framed buildings aren’t horrific death traps after all (once completed).

review you tube videos on this apartment fire, 3 year old occupied buildings.

You beat me to it! I was going to say “except Devon 425 is actually concrete”
I think this is the perfect example of why we should build out of concrete. It’s just too bad that concrete is an energy intensive material that doesn’t have a strong green story to tell.

Instead of wood studs, they could do the buildings out of metal studs and light gauge metal trusses. That would help the combustibility issue, but would still be a noise challenge.

Y’all need to learn how to cook and quit starting fires

I randomly checked in on the Cameron Crest townhomes on St. Mary’s.

This is exactly the right product to transition to Cameron Park and makes a nice edge to the downtown limits.

I wish they could bury the power lines.
