General Parking Discussion

Google says they offer paid and free parking at East End Bistro. It’s just in Iron Works, isn’t it? There is a garage, sometimes you pay, sometimes you don’t there.

It’s not in Iron Works, it’s just over the train tracks from Dock 1053/Wilson’s/Lynnwood Brewing - and there are signs all over the lot that parking is not free…I believe most of the shops will validate for you but it’s still a pay lot

NCSU employee here… we all have to pay for our own parking. From the most well paid employees to the housekeepers who are woefully underpaid

I work in One City Plaza and I think a monthly space is up to $200+ now. The bike rack underground is free.

For $200 a month, I can replace my walking shoes every month and still have enough leftover money to buy a few nice lunches.

Why should Bob get free car parking (in a parking spot which cost thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of dollars to build and hundreds of dollars a year to maintain), while Carla in the next cubicle has to pay her own bus fare? It’s not just me, it’s in the tax code.

This is why it’s so shocking to me that nobody has picked up the old Citrix building. They have their own freaking garage!

$84m as of a couple of months ago. I know a company interested in it, but…not for $84m.

It’s worth every bit that much if a company is looking to actually buy the entire complex.

Technically, they’re both paying to get to work. Bob pays for gas and devaluation of the car. Carla pays for that in bus fare. Bob is likely still paying more than Carla without the parking spot.

I would love to see more workplaces just give everyone a transit/transportation monthly stipend. Then you can spend it however you want. You can use it to pay for a parking spot or for bus fare or for nothing and just pocket it.

its state govt..at the office i worked at it was its own little parking area…maybe 12 of of us there. the big multilevel lots did charge. if I recall, beginning in the 90s , you could get free bus fare as a state employee.

In Switzerland this week traveling around the whole country via train and bus which they really get right. But even they cannot disguise all of their decks.

Jeeeeeeeeezus that is horrid. I apologize for any of my Raleigh-parking-deck complaints. This is the worst thing I have ever seen with my own two eyes.

The uglier they are, the more unpopular they become. It’s a good strategy.

Person 1: Damn, this parking deck is ugly. Got any ideas?

Person 2: What if we make it look like a giant walked through a lumberyard blindfolded?

Person 3: Love it. Just throw some brown beams on there like we’re building a bird nest for cars.

Person 1: Perfect. Find the cheapest vendor with a ladder and a dream. Let’s make this official.
