General Retail/Restaurant News

Anyone see the list of rules Pour House cooked up in order to see a show? Its absurd. I’ll pass.

Just came from a coffee meeting at Sir Walter. Good vibe. Wasn’t crowded.

Harry’s guitar shop is a bar now…

The problem is that’s all there is. I am for young etc but old too. Put some of that by Raleigh brewery area by the university…just an example. Or somewhere on Hillsboro there are tons of open unused spaces. Make glennwood more classy! I like this village place but I fear it will turn trash soon… being real here :))

Harry’s moved…right ? Now of course that prior GlenSo location is…a bar, of course…why not?

We need an epicenter type development and then it’ll all be in one spot

I absolutely don’t want an epicenter type development downtown. I’d rather have a more organically constructed downtown. Since our footprint is small, I want quality.

quality is always foremost…Im with you

Yea I am only familiar with the new spot on Western (around there). I was surprised to hear about them on Glenwood, makes sense now

Glenwood South is for more than a young crowd. I’ve seen older people show up for nice dinner/night on Glenwood. Of course after 9PM, it is mainly a party area but that’s generally everywhere. Most other retail stores will close 7-9PM. With the Smoky Hollow development, maybe there will be more restaurants/stores. Again, the stores more than likely will be closed by 9PM so I’m not sure what is really expected/wanted. The activity is what makes Glenwood South.

Outside of that, there are other areas that can be explored that aren’t Glenwood South. Warehouse District still has the Videri, Boxcar, and Crank Arm. I’ve also seen older people out for a nice dinner/night at Moore Square. North Hills has the movies/bowling if that’s what you’re looking for (we’ll see what happens with the movies).

I appreciate you sharing this! Glad to see the city is doing stuff like this, it’s needed.

Bill King just posted pictures of a new salon at 309 W. Martin St. called Hightide Salon. I’m guessing this means the redevelopment plans for this block have been place on hold.

Clearscapes’ residential tower was going in the parking lot behind these buildings. Buildings weren’t being touched. But no idea if the project is still happening anyway.

The Lincoln Theatre is back April 2nd! It’s a trickle but it’s a start.

Just drove around downtown, 2:30 pm and every place is packed! Bad for covid spread but good for business.

Not sure where to put this, but VAE will be utilizing soon-to-be demolished spaces as their galleries in a new strategy to reduce costs and partner with other local arts non-profits.

First up are four storefronts in Alexander Square at 120 S Wilmington for street view galleries and a flagship location in the Creamery where they’ll partner with TheGifted Arts (youth-arts nonprofit out of Garner). By taking leases in buildings that will be redeveloped in the near future, they can leverage cost savings and activate what might have otherwise been vacant spaces.

I think this is a brilliant idea and would love to see more creative uses like this around downtown.

Very interesting. Creative thinking on their part. I used to really enjoy their space on First Fridays (pre-pandemic).

I do worry about their long-term future if they don’t have a more permanent space. IMO, the ideal scenario would be a (possibly small) long- term location for stability and supplement it with these shorter term opportunities. :art:

Apparently Raleigh has it’s own version of muscle beach with an awesome view of the Archdale building!
This is at Knuckle Up Gym overlooking the soon to be Devereux Meadows park on N. West St.

Looks like the prediction of Sup Dogs going in the old Subconscious spot were wrong. Going to be “Italian Kitchen of Raleigh”. Location is looking pretty good with the string lights setup for outdoor dining.

Edit to say I’ll take a pic and post later.
