Yes, I posted this a while ago. Is there an update on when they plan on opening other than this year (which could be another 350 days)?
I don’t have any further information on the expected date, unfortunately.
Bumped into a friend of mine who’ll be working there. They are shooting for end of this month, but he was skeptical based on permits and whatnot. Guessing that mid-February was more realistic.
Wow, that’s much sooner than I was thinking. Thanks!
The City is soliciting bids for someone to construct up to 15 standard “Streeteries” (parking space turned into an outdoor dining area). The prototype is in front of Crank Arm and has 3 sections (2 corners and 1 middle). The city would then lease the streetery to restaurants that request them in Downtown and Hillsborough St districts. Bid also includes 2 “special” ones. [not sure if this means the Times & Garland ones or something different]
Places with known interest:
- A Place at the Table
- Irregardless
- North St. Beer Station
- Crank Arm (add an extra middle section)
- Raleigh Times (with 12 middle sections and added planters)
- Garland / Capital Club (with 12 middle sections)
Other Potential Locations:
- Slim’s
- Woody’s
- Berkeley Cafe
- Cooper’s
- Wolfe & Porter
- Videri
Love this, these could be some nice additions to these listed restaurants/bars.
Deco built one outside of their previous space almost 6 years ago and it’s still there. I believe the original arrangement they made with the city were, they pay the annual cost of what year-round parking would generate.
Very nice but is there a reason why they’re limiting it to 15? Seems kind of arbitrary.
dunno. kinda sounds like only 6 have requested them so far?
Hadn’t heard of Wolfe + Porter…
Something more permanent for Cap 16 / Garland will be awesome.
Hope more folks jump in on this!
David Meeker just posted updates about upcoming work at Irregardless :
" Over the next couple months, Irregardless is getting a new roof, new siding, new solar power by @ncsolarnow, and new murals"
Awesome, more urban blight, enough with the self righteous pat your own back stuff, lower your prices.
What is blight? Urban blight is marked by deteriorating and abandoned homes and buildings, as well as vacant lots with trash, high weeds and grass and/or abandoned and vandalized cars.

Not quite sure how updating a thriving local restaurant fits into that term…
Too many stupid murals popping up in a 1 sq mile urban area is the same as weeds to me. We have restrictions and registration requirements, size rules, lighting rules and such for businesses in the rule books, however they don’t seem to apply to certain situations. Are they rules or not? Do the top 1 percent in the city get to do what they want and all the others must obey the sign rules. Are these things approved by the city or just thrown up at the owners discretion. It seems these are going up at certain places by certain people.Just an observation, not the end of the world. Eventually it will be over saturation of these things and they become blight! On the other hand maybe a mural across the capital street bridge could have been better than the iron treatments, lol.
Sir this is a Wendy’s
Hahahahahahahahahahahahha, good one
Although I don’t agree with you, I love a devil’s advocate. It is interesting how strict sign permits are, yet if you call it a mural it’s public art! Irregardless’ sign is more creative than some of the murals we have. I’m not sure how bad Raleigh is, but Cary is a nightmare. One would think getting a creative sign approved required a personal sign off from the mayor.
All right back to restaurants and shops ha

Does anyone know if there’s any movement on this? Or has this one died off…
Asking as my wife and I met up with friends in Chapel Hill not too long ago and we walked by the Chapel Hill one.
According to Raleigh Alliances Q4 market report. Taqueria El Toro is opening up a downtown location somewhere? If you haven’t been, you’re in for a treat. Literally the best Tacos.
Anyone have info on the location?
