General Retail/Restaurant News

El Toro Loco? Doesn’t sound like it’s the same business. I think it’s the retail spot on Blount Street north of DGX.

Ah good catch. You might be right. OG location is just Taqueria El Toro. Darn got my homes up, but maybe this place will be good!

I haven’t seen much activity on this project recently however but the interior is all done. We still need a Glenwood South taco shop so there’s still room for more taco places in downtown.

This is far from official or solicited by the city or DRA, but could help spark/gauge interest in social districts in Raleigh. Give it a vote!

Hopefully it’s applied downtown wide. There’s other districts in Raleigh so I wonder if those areas will eventually ask for their own social districts.

Is there a link that isn’t part of a paywall site?

I didn’t have a paywall when I visited.

Interesting. Either you got really lucky, or I got really unlucky.

I tried again and got paywall. Not a great way to judge public opinion. Only paid readership opinion.

Side note, Karla and I looked through the windows in the old Highhorse space in City Market and a guy came and opened the door. Says they’re working to get the space upfit and hope to open this year, but don’t know yet what “it” will be.

Unfortunately this is probably one of those things where the broad public support is soft because the people who support it vote less than those who oppose it (not to mention the polling bias of the Extremely Online).

I hope it’s High Horse!

Fortunately the general public doesn’t get to vote on it. The government can just create it right? I honestly don’t care one way or the other, but it may be kind of cool to see.

In theory, but elected officials are the ones who will make that choice. Look what some of the dipshitty representatives of Northern Raleigh have done to affect policies in downtown already because their conservative constituents get queasy about, I dunno, scooters.

The poll is 87% in favor.

I seem to remember a conversation that I had with a bar proprietor is not for this law at all.

Any bar proprietor not in favor of this should head down to Savannah for a weekend and have their mind changed.

I’m not making a value judgment on what was said to me. I’m just remembering what I heard.
I’ve been to Savannah and had a great time. It’s a beautiful tourist city with lots of history. I don’t recall what sort of mix of uses there was in the party area of town. It seems to me that Raleigh has gone all-in on building residential communities in its core, and I wonder how this will play out for all of us who are residents.
