General Retail/Restaurant News

It’s fine. NC certainly has better things to offer. But it predates the craft beer boom here, so it has a special place in my heart. Plus the food was great, and the place had a good vibe. I’ve only been to Tobacco Road once, but it just didn’t do it for me. Might have to go during a game, as suggested above.

The Durham Tobacco Road during Durham Bulls season is a fun experience. Being able to sit outside on their patio and watch a baseball game is pretty cool. I honestly haven’t been to the Raleigh one since they moved. Not sure if everyone knows but Tobacco Road use to be in the space where La Santa is now on GS. When they were in that space it seemed it was always packed, especially during games or big fights.

I liked that spot, especially if you could snag one of the fluffy chairs near the wall on the right side. But it was always packed for games. Either had to get there early, reserve a room, or be patient at the bar which I guess comes with wanting a packed place for games lol

Speaking of craft beer and breweries…

Love the mural. We’re here now. It’s very cathartic to finally have a beer here, after we made a trip here several years ago only to find they had no taproom.

I know we complain about the prevalence of “just put a Raleigh skyline on it” art, but that one’s beautifully executed.

Hopefully it can be easily updated.

I don’t complain about that at all. I love all the murals and especially skyline ones. I’m not always a :grumpy_cat:

Love how they managed to integrate it into their own branding with the stripes, too. It’s a simple touch, but a nice one.

Question: seeing as they brew the official beer of the Carolina Hurricanes, can we be expecting them to air all games with sound?

Yeah, they’re common in suburban Atlanta as well. It won’t create a tourist boom overnight; at least 11 states allow them, and I’ve yet to hear about pub crawl bachelorette parties ruining the towns of Arkansas and Nebraska.

Just saw this on Twitter. The DT CVS is closing!

Yay! Finally! Maybe something, literally anything that is open ever, could move in there!

Now, I’m not saying a downtown CVS isn’t a good asset, but that PARTICULAR one has been such a damn eyesore, and as @GucciLittlePig mentions, NEVER OPEN AT NORMAL HOURS. This is welcome news. RENOVATION PLEASE!!!

Wow, that’ll be a change for sure. The last few times I’ve used it, the shelves were a bit under stocked but I just figured that was supply chain issues. Oh well.

Maybe DGX is eating their lunch.

I just don’t think enough people are working downtown to pick-up their prescriptions midday, snacks, etc. etc. This is one where I think you can squarely blame the pandemic.

Being closed for months post protests probably didn’t help either.

Neither did being closed for all DT people other than 9-5 office workers for 20 years.

Empire Properties recently acquired the building. Expecting a cool restaurant to take its place and finally improve the street experience on that corner

Update: confirmed the R&D taproom does indeed plan to air all Canes games with the speakers on. Also, the mural is hand-painted; the artist is here now working on it:

Article from the N&O on the CVS closing on Fayetteville Street.

Nothing super new, other than it looks like this might be part of the chain closing over 900 locations in the next couple of years.
