When I say “Raleigh needs more weird art” THIS IS NOT WHAT I MEAN

Or they’ll tear it all down to build residential… I feel like this is gonna happen sooner or later.

We are…slowly but surely…turning into a very weird BBQ version of Miami

On this note, I have a gripe that falls into this thread’s scope.
Hartwell on South st is really a bummer of a derelict property turned retail. It is open like 6 hours per week…

People rave about it as an event space, but we all know from City Market how useful those are for the street scene…

I had a donut and beer there once. They were good.

Yay. That puts BB closer to my place by a few blocks. I hope that a larger and more efficient location can reflect in their prices either going down or at least not going up.

We all win from economies of scale. Glad to see a homegrown spot with national pub, invest in themselves…

Not to mention that they’re part of what makes Benchwarmer’s awesome and the soon to come Brightspot Donuts…

So long as they add more ground floor retail to whatever may get built

I don’t think that was the original intention, but the owners are currently the ones managing/running/bartending the entire shop and they have two kids under 4 years old sooooo I’m sure time is limited for them. The foot traffic in this area also isn’t great yet. It probably will be at some point with all of the new development in the area.

A labor of love - I respect that.

Hopefully they do well. It’s a really neat spot and the owners seem great. I think the return of warmer weather will help them with their regular maker events.

Whatever we can do to bring more business to downtown. It’s mostly been an exodus even if just a little bit like Blouted Bread.

I wish! Miami has some AMAZING art galleries that are not just cookie-cutter “Instagrammable” BS. The Wynwood Walls and surrounding arts district and my favorite art gallery I’ve ever visited, The Rubell Family Collection come to mind. I will take the dumb selfie museum in stride if we can get some more unique galleries like those.

The Rubell Family Collection is AMAZING. ArtBasel Miami Beach jump started Miami’s current art scene 20 years ago and it has since exploded.

That makes sense. Good on them for making all of that happen while having young kids. I know they did a lot of the upfit themselves.

The “anchor” space on that strip (old Kirby shop) has been available for rent for many months now. The giant pit across the street isn’t exactly a selling point, but I hope something happens there soon. That strip of storefronts could be so great.

I live between the South St shops and the Dupont warehouses, so I’m glad to see two local businesses purchase their own buildings on Dupont.
