General Retail/Restaurant News

I don’t get why some folks seem to be instantly jumping to the conclusion that every retail store would end being a bodega or corner convenience store. Why not have small retail like a toy store, or a place selling charcuterie, or any of the other small retail shops you’ll find in just about any other part of the world?

There are probably businesses in their neighborhood already. They just never knew about it.

Yeah, like how many Etsy stores are run out of grandma’s living room? How many people are tutoring or giving piano lessons in their homes?

Our neighbor in 5 Points, ran a yoga studio across the street from our house. Cars along the street through the morning. We kept quiet until one of her clients’ car alarm went off at 6 AM. We brought it to the attention of our neighbor. She had her clients park a block away. So this is and has been a thing.

It’s a strawman. They don’t like change, so they come up with the worst case scenario and fret about “stale chips, rolling papers, and loitering.”

I also don’t like stale chips. Is there a way to codify that the chips must be reasonably fresh?

I’m gonna quit my job, buy the unit next to yours, and start selling stale chips in my front yard.

Not cars along the street in the morning! How could you live like that?

(The alarm would definitely be annoying)

During the great pandemic migration, the house was sold ($$) to a great family from California.

Bringing this back to ACUs in Raleigh…

Check out the way Livable Raleigh decided to spread this information:

Speaking of which, I haven’t been a big fan of much of Forte’s voting. She seems like a NIMBY-lite.

I hope she’s not just “playing politician” and seeing an opportunity to snag some of those entrenched Keep Raleigh Great votes…

Drove by today after a (much needed) haircut at Arrow in North Hills. Odd location but not far from a lot of things we all like. Also right by a very modern looking 4 story office building with a drive up Starbucks. Anyways, they have a lot of outdoor seating under the old drive thru area. I was too chicken to take inside pictures through the windows, but this will definitely be a cool little spot.

Those picnic tables have been there for like 4 months. I see folks use it as bus stop seating all the time. I have wondered what has taken so long. They clearly intended to open up some time ago.

That being said, this place is within walking distance, if ever needed. I’ll be checking it out whenever it finally opens.

OMG. Someone running a yoga studio in your hood! What’s next? Meth labs and hookers? Slippery slope!

I agree It is kind of an odd spot but very accessible. Especially for me since I could walk or ride my bike. :-). As to that new building you mentioned I’ve been tempted to post it here b/c it’s kinda cool but it is outside the bounds so to speak.

Perhaps we’ll bump into each other there. I’ll be sure to always wear my DTR t-shirt when I go lol.

I say at least one apartment or condo in each high rise on each floor should be turned into a business. I’d love to put some , child care, shoe store, stale chip store, clubs and bars in those swanky high rises in downtown since living downtown means anything is accepted “because it’s a downtown”, and it’s so cool.

I’m pretty sure there are already plenty of businesses operating in downtown condo and apartment towers.
