This renovation has looked really good so far! I’ve heard really good things about their bbq.
I still miss Oakwood Cafe though (thanks covid ) .

Indyweek article with the owner of C. Grace. Mentions staffing issues as the main reason for the closure. Also mentions she plans on leasing out the space for a future unknown business.
Vic’s Pizza opening a new location in One Glenwood. Can’t wait till all the retail spots are filled here.
Yes I love Vic’s!! This looks to be going into the old Zambrero location that lasted only a few months before Covid hit.
I bet Vic’s got a sweet deal on the equipment/stuff Zambrero left behind.
We had Vic’s last night at City Market and it was packed. They should do well here with all the foot traffic and Glenwood South crowd. The only Pizza is Demo’s and they don’t offer as many pasta and Italian staple items like Vic’s.
Heck if you only got 1/10th of the crowd that gathers on the corner of Hillsborough and Glenwood each weekend you’d be successful. I think called the Avenue, there’s hundreds of people.
They’ll do well. I personally know I’ll be going there like once a week there now that’s is close to me.
Remember that there’s also going to be yet another Italian restaurant coming to the ground floor of the AC Hotel. That’s a high density of pizza on the south end of Glenwood South. Where’s the variety?
Perfect spot for the Falafel & Co owners to make a comeback - great for lunch and for late night drunk food.
While we have First Watch coming to 2 Hillsborough, I’d love to see a breakfast/brunch place on Glenwood South proper. With all of the residents in the immediate walkshed, I can’t imagine that location not working. Heck, even an urban style Waffle House like the one in Midtown Atlanta would be great.
Boy do I miss Finch’s!
I’m pretty confident there is a block of Broad Street in Richmond (very near VCU) with a Waffle House/Coldstone/Five Guys/Smoothie Cafe/Etc. on the first floor with several floors of (student) housing above. I know they are chains, but bringing some more affordable quick service options is good to add to the mix of the neighborhood IMO.
I have no hate toward some budget chains that are interested in urban model stores! Unless you have more money than you need, most people can’t afford daily $20 breakfasts and lunches. I’d be more than happy to have more urban model budget options across downtown.
Seriously - I spent $75 on a breakfast for two at First Watch last month without trying particularly hard and the line at Big Ed’s is always long at peak weekend times. A Waffle House would be wonderful.
There are so many empty storefronts in new construction with more to come! Let’s hope that the financials make sense for more of these budget options to come downtown.
We stayed in Downtown Wilmington last weekend and they had an urban Waffle House on Front St!
It makes you wonder if the economics of this can work in Downtown Wilmington, they can definitely work in Downtown Raleigh. Are they better at presenting this to Franchisees or are we worse?
I’ve 10+ times gone to Waffle House across Meredith after a night out on Glenwood around 2-3am. If Waffle House would open a location on Glenwood I would be absolutely ecstatic.
Especially after they just closed the nearest Waffle House to downtown in Mission Valley, which still confuses me, it was packed constantly.
Out of all locations…They closed this Waffle House?? It’s literally next to NC State and minutes from downtown. Wtf
They have also closed the one on Franklin St in Chapel Hill.
Just saw soca is closing. Not sure what happened to them, but they always seemed packed and had great food and service. First buku downtown, now soca. Just got koan in Cary by SAS left.
