General Retail/Restaurant News

I’m nearly certain Heat is grabbing the “Retail / Creative Office” space in the Peace building part of that plan.

They’re pretty adamant about all SH retail spaces being filled by local/regional businesses, and the $/sq.ft. makes it highly unlikely for a greasy spoon to go in here unless you’re paying a serious premium for that meal.

They need to lure a Big Bad Breakfast.
Based out of Oxford Miss, they have locations in B’ham and Mobile.
The owner has a triangle connection - worked in Chapel Hill for awhile at . . . dang, the place that just closed. I will have to look it up after I teach.
Not locally based, but still regional and small.

Oh man, BBB and then right to the Grove for tailgating was the foundation of a couple of my favorite ever Saturdays.

Oxford’s restaurant scene in general punches so wildly above its weight - City Grocery, Ajax Diner, several more great spots.

Yes. BBB…City Grocery…
John Currence - worked a minute at Crook’s Corner…I think.

Good for Samad…!!! :cocktail:

Owner of Mulino Italian will be leasing the space and calling it "La Terrazza, which, fittingly, translates to “the terrace.”

"It will also play host to two bars—one inside and another in an enclosure on the patio (dubbed the Sky Room) boasting accordion glass doors that will remain open when the weather is nice. "

And good for Kane’s leasing team that remained stubborn and leased this locally.

Exciting. But also bummed it’s the people from Mulino, their food is subpar in my opinion. Will certainly enjoy the rooftop bar portion tho!

Ageeed . Tried it . Worst Italian food I’ve had at any price.

I thought the same when I had it right before the pandemic. Went back recently and thought it got a lot better. Not sure if they changed chefs or not but the food tasted completely different imo.

The food sounds incredibly boring. And unfortunately, if people go there for the space/view, they probably won’t have to deliver anything more than boring pasta and pizza as advertised. Really disappointed considering what was contemplated for the space previously and following the recent loss of something as unique and special as Garland.

Tough Crowd…

This is incredibly boring?

"The menu will place a large emphasis on Mediterranean and Italian offerings to include fresh seafood, crudi, handmade pastas and artisanal pizzas. “It’s very healthy fresh food, very delicious—and lends itself to be seasonal, which is part of my style of cooking,”

Now, if they had decided to list the menu items from say Cici’s Pizza, I could agree with that.

Nothing wrong with a good Italian place with a nice view. Nothing particularly memorable, either, unless it’s truly remarkably good, but it’ll probably be a pretty date spot.

Unfortunately, y’all are not the first I’ve heard that Mulino is sub-par. So I don’t think anyone is being particularly grumpy here!

Yes, I read it. Reading it again doesn’t change my opinion that it sounds very boring and offers nothing unique for what is a unique space.

You can get away with serving subpar food when the space is nice…
