General Retail/Restaurant News

Lol do you guys all just stay downtown all the time? It’s so tiny, I feel like you’d run out of options. There’s so many other cool places besides walking distance places.

I feel like once I get in my car I might as well go to Durham.

The exceptions are Seoul Garden, Szechuan Mansion or Chuan Cafe, proudly carrying on the “the best Asian food in American cities is always in strip malls” tradition.

(well, and Alamo, but that’s because there’s no downtown theater)

I do love Gateway Plaza, but it’s just about walkable for me.

I guess we just don’t eat/drink out as much. I mean, I have like my 10-15 favorite places in downtown and I’m pretty good with that. I do admire those who drive all over the triangle checking out all the places. That’s super cool. But when I try to do that kind of thing, I just think, “Why?” :upside_down_face:

Gateway Plaza has great places but like any shopping center, I only go if I’m heading in that direction and want to work in some food.

That new Miso Ramen place is way tasty but when I went for lunch, there were quite a few kids there and their space is an echo chamber. My ears were ringing. Ugh. Sono has about as good ramen. (I think)

That is correct, sir.

Free parking, ease of access will help. I get it. Facing busy Dawson st with limited parking is a hard sell to the average hipster suburbanite. Bad weather would just compound the effect. Downtown restaurants need to be situated on quiet streets clustered with other bars and restaurants with convenient parking IMO.

There are over 100 restaurants within 1 mile of my condo and I didn’t count McDonald’s or subway etc

Also as others have said- the space will (hopefully) be bigger! The current FK space is tiny and ALWAYS packed and on a wait.

If it’s raining or below 65 degrees I have zero options. .

We do. We used to drive more, but convenience trumps driving 9/10 times. Once you’ve experienced true walkability (which is ingrained in me from when I lived in Miami before moving to Raleigh), it’s hard to go back to fighting crappy traffic around the Triangle.

A place has to be real special or in another metro area to get me to drive to it most of the time.

Anyone know what’s going in on the corner of Boylan and Hillsborough? Gonna have a nice roll up door facing Hillsborough.

That’s the first watch corner I believe.

Wolfe and Porter are doing some renovations. They’re the bar in the quirky old building next to Irregardless Cafe. I’m guessing they’re taking over the Atomic Salon that shares the building on the left half.

I wasn’t pleased when they pulled the Drink Drank Drunk brand from the right side. Of course they’re can be better, more neighborhood friendly names and appearances but it was a cool dive staple to our downtown for a while.
