Idk, after finally trying Longleaf Swine’s new permanent location… I don’t think I need to go anywhere else for a BBQ sandwich
The key to Raleigh’s new four-corners bbq strategy is that no matter which corner of downtown you’re in, you’re always close to a good pork sandwich.
NE: Longleaf
NW: Midwood
SW: Sam Jones
SE: ok we have some work left to do
Tasty Take : I think the Longleaf chicken might be better than the pork.
And no, I’m not bashing the swine. Just talking 'bout that brine…
The interior is interesting… (https://www.newsobserver.com/latest-news/iicfz4/picture272297663/alternates/FREE_1140/MIDWOOD07-020823-EDH.jpg) You don’t see carpeted floors very often anymore. It looks a lot like the interior of the Farmers Market restaurant.
And we have Clyde Coopers and The Pit in the middle. We are fortunate to have these - I hope we can leverage them into some kind of marketing opportunity.
The Raleigh BBQ trail needs to be a thing!!!
The 90s are BACK baby
It looks like shit, is what it looks like. Could be mistaken for a damn Applebees with all the random crap on the walls and those UGLY ass carpets!!! YIKES!
The blue carpet is god awful.
I can’t remember the last restaurant I visited that had carpeted floors.
The lease was so expensive at SH, they had to get furniture from a bankrupt Denny’s.
Clyde Coopers is in that area
Clearly I should feel more comfortable expressing my true feelings here, hahah
Thanks for doing it for me, you hit the nail on the head.
Lol y’all crack me up. I definitely agree, but isn’t BBQ supposed to be all substance with shitty interiors like Backyard BBQ? Maybe that means they’ll be amazing foodwise! Or they spent all the money on rent. Definitely super incongruous with the sleek modern exterior
For me, BBQ is like Mexican and Cuban joints. The divyer the better!
totally, but this doesn’t come off as “dive” to me - it comes off as sterile, hotel lobby… Like they gave $20 to a retiree and told them “go buy some dive-y decor, whatever you think that means”
That’s about how I remember most of the BBQ joints I went to growing up in eastern NC… so this place must be the real deal!
In my mind, a good bbq place should look and feel like the old Finch’s diner that was torn down for the Capital Blvd rebuild/Smoky Hollow. Do we have folks participating here that had never been to that place? As years go by, I am sure that there are now plenty of people who never got to experience it.
I’ve never been there! I’m a relatively new Raleigh transplant.
I grew up on Wilburs, Moores, and Parkers and I’ve got to say Midwood looks very tastefully designed in comparison haha. But the BBQ and sweet tea was good! I dunno… it’s kind of just what I expect from a BBQ joint.
Here’s are old photos that I grabbed off the interwebs. Sorry that I didn’t take them myself @dtraleigh but circumstances…
Yep! That’s exactly what I’m used to . Gotta love it!
