General Retail/Restaurant News

They should have kept the sign and ditched the building.
I suppose the owner and the leasing team wanted that sign to go.

…Confederate general Stonewall, or famous gay bar Stonewall?

Lol good point. I certainly hope the latter!

I decided to check back on the progress of “La Terrazza” (the Dillon 9th floor Terrace Restaurant).
It looks like they sent out a hiring request just over a month ago, so hopefully they will open soon. Perfect timing to capitalize on the cooler temperatures rolling into fall for outdoor seating.

Stars and gay bars.

Dang GLP, you write like a marketing specialist!
I didn’t realize Superica was suppose to be upscale. It felt like an Uncle Julio’s joint, with UJ’s prices.
This new place does sound good, and I’ve yet to make it to Iron Works, though I hear the sandwich place is most excellent.

We actually haven’t been to Superica yet. I’ve heard mixed things, and their lack of reservations has burned a lot of people. I’m not someone who likes to waste an hour waiting for the privilege of paying for food. But I think a lot of the negative reviews come from buyer’s remorse, where a high price tag brings high expectations. I’m thinking a more intentionally causal place might be better received.

We went for lunch - which is usually our modus when trying out some place new/expensive.
It was fine, upscale Mexican/Tex-Mex with very proud prices - but the decor was fancy-ish cantina. I enjoyed it fine, but was not floored.

Spot on with my feelings. Still, Mexican is probably my favorite cuisine, so more options more better!

My personal opinion from a single experience eating at Superica for lunch is that I would rather pay Superica prices for a meal at El Rodeo over El Rodeo prices for a meal at Superica. Maybe the more casual options at this new place will see a better flavor to price ratio though.

It’s a good place to try just for a new atmosphere and vibe but there’s better mexican all over the triangle imo.

A friend of mine goes to the one in Atlanta and had really good things to say. Always good to have another taco joint!

My opinion:
Superica>Gringo A Go Go> Uncle Julios>A Verde>Taco Bell>>>>El Rodeo
I think El Rodeo, at least the DT Raleigh location, is NASSSTY. I put it below taco bell just as a joke; but i’d just as soon eat from the Bell than go to El Rodeo downtown raleigh
A Verde is an overpriced disappointment, to be honest, even though the chef came from downtown Raleigh to open in Cary.
Superica is ridiculously $$$ but some things are really good. great setting IMO. Like someone else said, try it at lunch

Gonna have to disagree with you about El Rodeo. Went last night and it was clean and delicious.

La Santa is my bar for quality vs price and consistency.

Chido and Tacos El Patron for a quick taco hit (usually lunch) then La Santa if I need a drink to go with it. If I’m lost in North Raleigh, I go to Jose and Sons. (formerly in downtown)

Wow, we’ve got options, people!

Agree with this assessment. El Rodeo is no bueno

I had one desperately bland meal from La Santa and never went back, but it was right after they reopened from COVID and they probably deserve another shot.

Wait, Chido doesn’t have (alcoholic) drinks??
