It’s a bummer that there isn’t an outdoor space at that location.
Gateway has done such a good job of collecting an interesting set of tenants.
Next up on my wishlist - connecting it for even easier bike/walk access to the greenway and nearby neighborhoods. And generally making it more mixed use and less of a strip mall.
Even better would be if they could go into 420 a couple doors down. I don’t think this space has been renovated, but it has an interesting outdoor area behind it.
not certain on this but malls near Santa clara are still ok. some places they last and others…things change. the oncoming rubble may be more complex dependent on area.
are there any fenton like developments in the area or elsewhere that did well, faded and then wow…look how that was redone or improved without complete demolition? locally and or nationally?
The Berkeley totally needs a 420 address!
That said, I’m guessing that they are going into the old Fiction Kitchen space because it has a kitchen already and is more cost effective. I worry that being on that busy street across from the police station will kill its vibe. While it’s technically walkable, the sloping sidewalk makes it nearly impossible to have a couple tables out front like they have today and there’s neither trees out there nor a park across the street. All in all, it’s a sad sidewalk experience.
I’d love to see them recess a new storefront 8 ft back from the front facade and pop out the windows and door in their existing facade to create an outdoor covered space.
Is there anything in this article that we should know? I don’t have a subscription, so I can’t read it.
Chidos is not open today. I stopped by. Sooo what’s going on?
Apparently insiders call it The Berk. You’re welcome.
Such riveting journalism. How can I not pay a $1 a week for such incredible content?
You know, when I heard the news, my first thought was that I wish the stars had aligned a few years back so that the Berkeley could have snagged the former Deep South space. It sounds like the Eye Heart folks are doing well with that unit, but the music connection would have been neat.
I’m just glad they found somewhere.
Where did they used to be? I’m unfamiliar with Deep South.
430 S. Dawson, where Eye Heart Tattoo is now. Fiction Kitchen is in 428.
That definitely would have been a better spot for some outdoor seating.
The wait is over ⎻ The Green Monkey is officially re-opened and ready for business!
Shop for gifts and relax with a drink at the bar upstairs or head downstairs for trivia, bingo, drag shows, and other fun events in the Monkeyverse Fellowship Hall.
You can also soak up some sun in their large courtyard out back, just in time for the crisp fall weather!
#ProTip ⎻ If you’re ready for summer to be over, they already have Halloween merchandise for sale!
215 S Wilmington St.
Great news. The ugly Arby’s building is staying (wasn’t this supposed to be apartments or something?), as well as the metal signposts from the cool sign that was destroyed. Could this have been handled any worse?
Need a “WTF” emoji I can react with…
