Wow, you eat a lot for one guy.
I’ll be the first to say that floral tile is horrible. My grandma would probably dig it though.
That’s what happens, skip a generation or two and then ret-con ‘what’s cool’ from the past…
Right now is probably the single greatest mash up of style that has ever been…
GrandMa’s wallpaper, glasses and pants are what’s hot…LoLs
I’m waiting for the powdered wigs to come back. I honestly can’t tell if young people are being ironic with their clothes (and hair), or they’re too dumb to realize they’re wearing crap people made fun of for decades being peddled to them as new and cool.
I do think that floral wall looks like it’s supposed to be an accent wall or something for Instagram pics, like those fake plastic plant walls. I actually don’t hate it, I think it could be kind of a funky little addition to the place. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how it all comes together. I’m just excited something is finally going in that space.
Style is cyclical. Always has been. Even “timeless” preppy clothes have only been “timeless” for like 50 years.
Mullets are back “in” style.
Back to the regularly scheduled topic…
Raleigh Magazine reporting that Slims has closed. They say for renovations, others say the staff walked out.

Honestly if the end result is it’s a just-enough nicer venue for listening to music and pay the staff better… win-win. As an American Aquarium fan, I really want to see it live on.
I heard from a friend in the downtown service industry crowd that all or most of the employees quit. The story I got was that one long term employee was fired and everyone else or almost everyone else quit in response.
This is third hand info that I was hesitant to share without any other context, but since the rumor is already out there I figure it can’t hurt. I’m confident that the employees leaving part is true.
They have been open this weekend with new staff.
Another sad development, Humble Pie closing up shop:

I’m sad to see them close, but I felt like they were never open. They basically fell off my list of places to stop at. Looked it up, and they’re open 3 weeknights and Saturday night for 5 hours. Places need to be open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. So maybe not surprised they’re closing. Seeing a place closed every time you go by makes it hard for people to rely on it as an option.
Same. I love this place, but at or around the time of the pandemic their menu seemed to get shorter and the dishes not quite as good as they were before. I really missed the baked cheese with the grape-ish sauce. Great space, I hope something quality goes in there.
Word on the street is that they’ve had a lot of staff turnover in the last year which forced them to reduce hours, including brunch which was a big money maker. And because of that, they can no longer sustain the business.
It’s sad. I really like Humble Pie and feel like it is a timeless staple of downtown. I love their Halloween parties and the patio. The food is consistent and good, and service was always great. I’ll miss it.
Well, that’s telling though - there’s a reason for that. Just like there’s a reason the entire staff at Slims quit when they fired the guy who’s been booking shows (on some rocky grounds, it appears).
What a lovely and gracious post on IG.
It is good to hear that a local business will be filling the space soon. Since they are in the know about that, I wonder if one of their employees is opening up a new concept in the space?
Someone on Reddit says AC opening an Italian restaurant on that spot.
Interesting choice since it will also be an Italian restaurant on the top of the Dillon.
I saw that post buuuuut, it stated “Someone who worked for AC bought it. It’ll be an Italian restaurant in a few months”
Maybe with all the Italian places coming in, the Warehouse District aka The Wild West End can be renamed to “Little Italy”.
