That’s kinda my thought on this … it’s a HUGE space for such a niche concept, though they mentioned they’ll also be selling NA beverages to-go (bottle shop style) which is cool, there’s some tasty stuff out there. But unless the mocktails are significantly cheaper than their alcoholic counterparts, I personally wouldn’t spend the money if I’m not even getting a buzz. If I don’t want a buzz I drink water which is free lmao. I am also kinda bummed there’s no food concept taking the Garland space - the walk-up window was so frustratingly underutilized and it’d be really sweet to be able to walk up and grab some walkable snacks and/or a (real) cocktail to-go.
Funny you should mention Garland, it’s one of the few places I’ve ever gotten mocktails (thank you dry January) that felt worth the money. I miss that spot.
There are some high quality ingredients that go into a good mocktail. My though was the same as yours initially, but if you’re out for a delicious beverage that is arguably healthier for you (or less bad for you?) then perhaps there is justification for a similar price.
ps, I’ve had some mocktails from the Umbrella Dry Bar from their pop ups over the past year and they really are delicious.
I’m sure they’re delicious! I just couldn’t in my life justify a $14 (+ tip) “delicious drink” if it wasn’t at least poisoning my brain somehow
Give Krave (kava) a try over in Mordecai. We visited a few times before we left town and found a nice spot down here with kava, kratom, etc.
For that price, and after tax and tip, it also better be a nutritious meal replacement drink.
I’m always jealous when I visit other cities that have multiple kombucha or kava bars, so I’ve been looking forward to this opening as someone who doesn’t drink. There’s more of us than you’d think!
Durham has some good options for non-alcoholic drinks, but almost everything I’ve tried in Raleigh has been overly sugary shit – I’m not interested in carbonated fruit punch. High-end restaurants tend to be much better at sophisticated/balanced mocktails than bars in my experience.
fwiw the current menu doesn’t sound all that exciting to me, but here it is. Cocktails are $10-11.
Need to take my sister out for a belated birthday dinner this evening, and was considering Fine Folk as a last hurrah - and it appears they are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays… what the hell restaurant is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays??? Starting to understand why they couldn’t keep a consistent customer base. Anyway - any recommendations for a good Wednesday low-key dinner spot???
Capital Club 16 is also closed on Wednesday for dinner so don’t go there but if they were open - get the currywurst.
Taverna Agora

There’s a reason why gas stations all get built next to each other. Restaurants can’t survive being so spread out. I completely forgot Fine Folks existed. City Market should have been the lynchpin to Raleigh’s food scene but it’s a semi-abandoned ghost town.
Given that, we don’t really have that one compact place that can just bring people/tourist in without forethought.
Downtown Raleigh doesn’t have a grand public third place like many other cities.
This is also why businesses suffer in Glenwood South. We have a high density of late night party places but a dearth of retail and services. It’s a damn shame that our best opportunity for a walkable 18 hour neighborhood in Raleigh, complete with its very own “high street”, has been squandered.
Update from the Dillon restaurant. (Sorry, I keep forgetting what it’s called.) It’s moving right along. Those space heaters on the patio are a nice touch. Looks like a cozy place to hang out. Unsure of targeted completion date.
One that’s in it’s last days. This is also the pattern that Humble Pie took during its last weeks.
I think the restaurant industry is still struggling with staffing. If you notice your favorite places starting to reduce their hours, it’s a sign to start giving them more of your business before they can’t sustain themselves anymore.
I’m not saying anything… but put this on the list, I recommend visiting here in the near future if it was one of your favorites.
It is one of my favorites and is always on the list. I think they recently added lunch hours after a long stretch without them during the pandemic, so perhaps they’re trying to balance that out. Still, it’s not a good sign.
TBF I want to say they were always closed those days (Fine Folk). They always kinda had weird ass hours/dates.
Capital Creations Pizzas on Wake Forest Rd is closing by Thanksgiving.
Super sad about this one since I used to walk to it about once a week :-(.

This one really hurts! Wish they would sell the business or something…anything other than just letting it close. Capital Creations is my go-to pizza delivery spot, and my family has been buying their dough balls (and sundried tomato pesto) for 30 years to make our “homemade” pizzas. Raleigh, and life in general, just won’t be the same without them
Perhaps @GucciLittlePig and others will FINALLY get the Raleigh Gucci store they have so long desired, even if just temporarily. Happy for y’all.
