General Retail/Restaurant News

I agree that the only reason I ever ate there was because it was downtown. My concern with her going to the N&O and them putting her feelings as a headline yesterday is that it hurts all businesses. Downtown Durham has far less parking and more crime but no one ever says a bad word. They are disciplined to put out positive messages and it works. Somehow, maybe DRA, we’re going to need a lot of positive publicity and marketing to counteract the recent negative reports. And we need it fast because people are deciding on a daily basis whether to come downtown or not and I think we’re losing them.

and irresponsible dog owners.

Not sure if this has been confirmed yet, but Reddit users are saying there has been a fire at Brewery Bhavana.

WRAL story about it: Fire reported at Brewery Bhavana

Part of me thinks WRAL jumped at this opportunity to self promote their investigative reporting on the sexual case, because what the hell does that have anything to do with the fire that’s occurring today. They created a hyperlink and everything, they just couldn’t help themselves.

Hopefully it wasn’t too serious. Wonder how it started.

If any of the books on their shelves got destroyed, that will be the saddest outcome IMO - they have a huge collection in there

The article is clear that it was contained to the kitchen. But seriously - losing books that can be replaced would be the saddest outcome?

No actually if the skylight windows were darkened due to smoke, that’d be even sadder. Relax lol

I just like that they sell books and have an even bigger library they allow folks to read while visiting.

This is totally normal and should be expected in a growing city, right? Or maybe, just maybe, when all these business owners around Moore Square keeping complaining, they should be listened to.
5 breaks-in occurring in 1 month, 3 times in 4 days and twice in 1 night! Those are incredible statics from one restaurant.

Vic’s Italian Restaurant broken into for 3rd time in a week, 5th time in month (wral.com)

Wait - the ALL CAPS guy is telling me to relax.

To quote you - LMAOOOOOOOO.

Look, either don’t take me- a random internet commenter- SO seriously, or else take it to my DMs.
No need for this pointless back and forth in the comments “LMAOOOOOOOO” - I expressed worry for their vast book collection, your problem is…?

Ok… this is pretty wild :face_with_spiral_eyes: :pensive:

Why in the world are they just breaking into Vic’s? Seems odd that they’d try to hit the same place 3 times in the same week when no other business in City Market is seeing any break-ins at all? Only issue I’ve seen is the plant store (Copperline) having a window broken some months back. But, to my understanding, that was strictly vandalism.

EDIT: The article mentioned:

It’s unclear if all the break-ins occurred at the City Market location.

Does anyone here know if the 3rd break-in occurred at the City Market location? Seems like it would be odd for them to hit the same place twice. Would also make the context of the article really weird since it’s only mentioning places around this location.

It’s also funny how the article tacks on this little tidbit at the end like an afterthought (probably because it doesn’t fit with the downtown bashing).

In Cary, five businesses were hit by break-ins along a 5-mile span of Kildaire Farm Road over the weekend.

Looks like brewery bhavana is still open. Just walked by and people were seated and eating.

I am going to Vic’s tomorrow but this worries me as $4500 to fix windows is beyond what a small business can handle.

The Hippo had a bottle of Barefoot Pinot Grigio thrown through their window yesterday. Don’t think anything was stolen, just people being shitty.
